AVG Anti-Virus

I have searched and I have found a lot of people use this software. But I can not find what I need. I am using this on three Notebooks. I have no trouble on one but the other two I have problems. On one of them It is hit or miss and the third it just plan won't work. What I am talking about is the Update it Say's that it can not find a Automatic connection to the Internet. To get around this it Say's to open a browser and I have one open and can surf the web at will. Has anyone come across this at all. I could not find a place for software so I put it in general.
When I do a manual update I get the same thing no connection. Any help would be great Thanks.

I think AVG Free update servers are pretty busy

Try it this way

It usually finally updates if I try about 4 or 5 times in a row.

Last customer I had who was using AVG had virus' so bad I had to reload his OS. Thats my only experience with AVG. I use and recommend norton. Not trying to troll here, just putting a word to the wise...

They both are resource hogs, but Norton is without a doubt the biggest waste of resources there is. IMHO

On my desltop, norton 2004 was pretty slow and I often have a norton message telling " xxx.xx file is waiting to be scanned, etc...." ... So I switched to another antivirus...

IMHO, AVG Free is good.. considering the price... but their update site is soooo slow ...

I agree that norton is a hog. But, I would rather have the hog than the viruses, hehe.

The customer I had was a bit of a wierdo anyhow, he coulda put the virus' on the himself. AVG wasnt set to auto update.

I've seen problems with Norton, I have not with AVG. I installed it on 4-5 computers and it has worked flawlessly.

AVG runs circles around that piece of crap Norton. Anything by Symantic/Norton is a hog and is damn near impossible to uninstall. Garbage.

Well, that said, combined with all the other great advice I have gotten here, I will try out AVG for some time.

Thanks!

I use AVG on 3 PC's and a notebook. One of the PC's can almost always get the update to download on the first try, the other's never can. However, if you have all the PC's networked together you can install the update file onto the remaining PC's using the "Service -> Update -> From a Folder" tab and browse to the folder on the PC that contains the updates. The update files are stored in the "\Program Files\AVG Anti Virus\Update" folder.

Tucsonan,

Thanks for that, I don't have them networked together but I guess I could. I will give that a try that could help me out in a few other ways also.
