7950 Drivers

Thread Starter
I have done a fairly big search on these forums, and everything seems to be pretty vague as to what drivers to use on a Geforce Go 7950GTX with windows vista.

Does anybody have a direct link to the best drivers available?

I am also looking for those drivers.

Also, do I have to flash my GPU in order to use custom drivers?

Start with Laptopvideo2go.com and make sure you get the driver PLUS it's corresponding modded .inf file. I've never heard of a superdriver per say. Seems like it's mostly down to user preference. No, you don't need to flash your GPU to use any given driver. Overclocking, though, is going to give you a performance increase much beyond any driver.

Alright, so I installed these 163.44 drivers. However, there are no options to change clock frequencies.

In vista, I guess you just use ATItool, ntune, or maybe even rivatuner to OC. Of course, your card will have to be unlocked however.

I am using 163.44, they are great. bioshock plays full settings @1600x900 on my rig

Tweakforce is not where I do my stuff any longer. MobileForce now has a home here at NBF.

So I have to flash the gpu to change clock frequencies? I see the sticky about it, just need to know if it applies to me.

Edit: And also, if I flash the gpu is there any way to restore original bios to it? Or are they lost forever?

You never told us which card you had so there's no way for us to know.

Yes you have to unlock the card to overclock within windows with any conventional overclocking utilities. Edit: And yes, always backup your original bios before flashing. True its a carbon copy of others bios (provided dell doesnt make a new rev) but I like relying on my own files and not others uploaded on the net. 'nvflash -b original.rom' is a command to generate a rom that contains the bios dump of what is currently stored in the eeprom. There are more intuitive ways to make a backup within windows but since you have to flash your card anyway, there is no point.

You have to download the modded INF first...

Or, just use the MobileForce drivers, and there's no mucking around with replacing INF's. Just install and go.

I'd recommend 163.75 for Vista. Latest optimizations, and I'm running them, they work well.
