I'll make a list here when I get the time I guess, but I thought it interesting that this week had a rather surprising release on Virtual Console: two games not previously released in the US.

Okay, well, maybe. But they're also the stars of our first games in a brand-new genre: import titles! That's right -- this week sees the Virtual Console release of two games that have never before been released outside of Japan in their original format.

With 150+ games and counting, the Virtual Console catalog is expanding its reach to snag titles on a global basis and let gamers in the Western hemisphere see what the rest of the world has to offer. This week's selection gives a glimpse of what's possible - a mix of games that you might already know (Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels), as well as ones that possibly never hit your radar at their original release (Sin & Punishment). Now is your chance to download these titles and find out for yourself what players in other countries already know!

The games are easy to find too - look in the catalog for the flag icon designating the game as an import, or use the search function to select the Import genre. Also note that our goal is to stay as faithful as possible to the original releases, so you might find some foreign language text and/or audio in these games. Rest assured though, that they're still easy to pick up and play, so this won't affect your understanding or enjoyment of them.

(Have fun!)

The first of the two, Mario Lost Levels, we got in Mario All-stars on the SNES. this is the original NES version, which was originally deemed "too hard" for an American release. The other, Sin and Punishment, is a N64 game, with a gameplay video found here.

This is quite an interesting development. for one, it means we get original content on Virtual Console not seen before in the US, and secondly it means these translations won't be slaughtered like they might have been had they been released here, with video game censoring the way it was at the time. furthermore, that could mean we might possibly get in the future "restored" versions of games, with redone translations and graphics. all in all, quite a surprise

Thoughts?

I have Lost Levels on emulator, and man it is hard. I don't have the patience for it.

Yet, I can wait all day in a darkened corner in Splinter Cell.

Sin and punishment looks good, though I wish(And doubt) it was updated to take advantage of the wiimote to aim with though. I might still pick it up, gameplay looks nice.

i need to catch up, i found some things missing and put off updating for the releases for last month

I think I'm gonna redo it a little differently, so I have the ones common between all regions and then exclusive to one region or another... should cut down on list size, and make it easier to maintain

then I'll start adding video links
