I have had this problem a few times during the year I have had my E1705. The first time I was getting the errors about once a day. I knew it was my Atheros wireless card because I only got them with the card in.(I bought it to upgrade the Dell 1390) I bought a Intel 4965 and it fixed it. The second time which happened just 2 weeks ago was because my video card was going bad. It took Dell 1 week to come out and replace the card and I haven't seen it since.

I got my PC serviced this morning, the replacement GPU I got looked older than the one I had. And the tech didn't seat the CPU properly, now the CPU temp is
in the 90C+ when Window starts and CPU is throttling back to 1.3 Ghz instead of
2 Ghz.

Dell is sending another tech to replace the CPU heat sink, I told the tech today to put some Arctic Silver on my CPU because it doesn't look like there is much left.
He sounded as if that will void my warranty.
Now I am out of another PC for a few more days.
Those refurbished replacement parts look old. I don't think they will work for too long.

Got a new CPU heat pipe and 2 new fans today. Now the peak CPU temp is under 80C, much better. I hope that BSOD doesn't come back again.

Hows your system running so far Weblogicx ???
I had my Mobo , RAM and CPU replacedc and yet the BSOD still remains . Ive reinstalled OS and all the factory drivers right after Its beeing replaced . My lap was working smoothly for a week after the Mobo / CPU replacement but then BAM - BLUE MOTHERF*&%ING SCREEN . Needless to say it pissed the hell outa me .
I guess its time to call Dell support and ask for a replacement . Working on the lap and have all your unsaved data lost all of a freaking sudden S U C K S .

does it give you nmi parity error or whats the message?

I figured I'd toss in my .02$ as well...
I have an XPS M1710 that does the exact same thing; completely randomly, blue screen:
Hardware Malfunction
NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error

yuck..

But, I had the added benefit of Dell not believing I own my system.

Man, be **really** careful of buying multiple'ly owned machines; I argued and argued and argued with Dell's customer service (and was even told that "They have no interest in supporting my machine" by one lousy customer service representative)

Anyway, a very very long story short, a guy came by & replaced the motherboard, and 45 minutes later, 'nother bluescreen.
He's coming by Monday to replace the video card.
hopefully new video card will fix it; I get so aggravated having it bluescreen twice a day... :-(

i think a new GPU will set you right

Ya , this 1 : NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error Also my screen has random colorfull pixels , which randomly appear during the day . Restart , and its all clean , few hours and they are back . My lap has always been running pretty cool , perhaps only in summer it was overheating a bit , to around mid 80s or so . Its been used for about 5-6 hrs a day . Think my video is quiting on me ? And i have yet to reach dell support ...ugh ...

So I got a new video card & exact same problem.
Ever since I got the "new" motherboard, my bluescreen problems have been so bad the machine is not really usable.. at least before I could go a couple days between bluescreens.
I just completely formatted & reinstalled & interestingly enough, until I installed the intel chipset drivers, I got no blue-screens.

but once I had installed all the stock dell drivers, blue screen after blue screen. I feel like I'm in a movie!

whoa! I just figured out what's causing the problem!

The Atheros 802.11a/b/g wireless card!

I put it in another (stable) machine & got the exact same blue-screen, and haven't had any more on the m1710!
weird!

Thats mentioned in post 6. I have some drivers that have yet to give me a BSOD on AC, but one on bootup on battery. Without the drivers, I BSOD quite frequently.

At 16 month mark, 6 months after the mobo, GPU replacement, no video.
Dell coming to replace mobo again. There is very litlle gaming since last replacement, mostly web browsing. That 4 yr onsite warranty looks smart now.
This laptop is not durable at all.

Okay, with my 1710, I had every option available, and being in a 'puter shop, I have tried EVERYTHING possible on this laptop to get rid of the NMI error...

I got it a lot after I changed my wireless card to an Atheros card. Ended up being drivers and went away.

... mind you I am constantly tweaking on my system too...

Well, I ended up getting the error after a while when playing a game or doing something intensive. Hmmmm.... So I get fed up and put my Intel wireless back in and reloaded the computer due to me wanting a fresh start and fresh speed. So it runs okay for a few days and BAM!...

Another bluescreen... ARRRRGGGGHHHH... So I decide to replace the 2GB of ram for 4GB of G-Skill 667. Problem Gone!!!

Or so I thought....

Now I take my laptop to work and when I get home I dock it to my TV and game a bit. Now I am playing a game and the video starts skipping, freezes and BLUESCREEN!!!!! FAAAAAARRRRRKKKKKK!!!!!! But only when doing something that pushes the system.

Well at that point I downclocked the video card to stock (as I was starting to artifact a bit in WoW.. and it persisted. I opened the laptop up and found a solid layer of crap stuck to the inside of the heatsinks. Wow... I really don't use the laptop on anything other than a desk and table.

Well obviously the artifacting went away, the temps dropped substantially, and... no more bluescreens. So far.

So let's sum it up... New Hard drive, ram, wireless, 15,000,000 reinstalls, and I still don't believe it's fixed...

I really wish they would have carried the styling cues from the 1710 to the 1730 more than they did. The 1710 was such an excellent design...

The perfect Dell: M1710 case w/M6300 MB, X9000, 4GB DDR800, 3600M, 500GB HD, Blu-Ray, 1GB Intel Turbo Memory, Vista X64 Ultimate, Dock, PCI X-Fi.... I'd bet $50 there would be some way to hotwire one LED color to fire off the new MB... It probably wouldnt be too hard to tap into something else to do it if needed....

I got another Mobo+ GPU replacement before the laptop works again.
It was out of action for over a week, 2 onsite visits.
The technician said there is a lot of these no display problems, 7900GS is
the problem.
I haven't had any NMI errors after the first Mobo+ GPU replacement.
