Okay, with my 1710, I had every option available, and being in a 'puter shop, I have tried EVERYTHING possible on this laptop to get rid of the NMI error...
I got it a lot after I changed my wireless card to an Atheros card. Ended up being drivers and went away.
... mind you I am constantly tweaking on my system too...
Well, I ended up getting the error after a while when playing a game or doing something intensive. Hmmmm.... So I get fed up and put my Intel wireless back in and reloaded the computer due to me wanting a fresh start and fresh speed. So it runs okay for a few days and BAM!...
Another bluescreen... ARRRRGGGGHHHH... So I decide to replace the 2GB of ram for 4GB of G-Skill 667. Problem Gone!!!
Or so I thought....
Now I take my laptop to work and when I get home I dock it to my TV and game a bit. Now I am playing a game and the video starts skipping, freezes and BLUESCREEN!!!!! FAAAAAARRRRRKKKKKK!!!!!! But only when doing something that pushes the system.
Well at that point I downclocked the video card to stock (as I was starting to artifact a bit in WoW.. and it persisted. I opened the laptop up and found a solid layer of crap stuck to the inside of the heatsinks. Wow... I really don't use the laptop on anything other than a desk and table.
Well obviously the artifacting went away, the temps dropped substantially, and... no more bluescreens. So far.
So let's sum it up... New Hard drive, ram, wireless, 15,000,000 reinstalls, and I still don't believe it's fixed...
I really wish they would have carried the styling cues from the 1710 to the 1730 more than they did. The 1710 was such an excellent design...
The perfect Dell: M1710 case w/M6300 MB, X9000, 4GB DDR800, 3600M, 500GB HD, Blu-Ray, 1GB Intel Turbo Memory, Vista X64 Ultimate, Dock, PCI X-Fi.... I'd bet $50 there would be some way to hotwire one LED color to fire off the new MB... It probably wouldnt be too hard to tap into something else to do it if needed....
