Returning from Sleep problem

Hi notebookforums,

I have a little problem with my dell 1520. When I try to restore my laptop from the sleep state the display doesn't turn back on.
I tried applying the hot fix from microsoft for this kind of problems but it didn't work.
Any other ideas ?

So how do u turn it back on, just hold the power button down for 10 secs, and then boot the machine back up?

Yep, that's the way I do it.
The fact is that the first time i installed Vista it worked, it returned from sleep state when i'dd close and then open the lid. But i installed xp and then again vista because the video card driver freezing problem and now it doesn't work anymore.

I've never found sleep state to work perfectly (neither standby or hibernate actually). Most of the time, it will mess up programs that won't shut down in the background and can't restart (firefox) or wireless won't reactivate or some other unidentifiable program that didn't restore correctly and log offs/shut downs that hang consequentially. basically, sleep is not a trustworthy feature.

I've had problems with sleep before but once I disabled it under what to do when laptop lid closes, rebooted, then re-enabled it when laptop lid is closed, and everything was fine again.

Strange but now works...and I really don't know what I did to make it work ... now remains only the display driver problem.
Thank's guys for the replys

Normally this caused by graphic card and some fiction components like wireless. In this case i don't know any specs on your laptop so best i would say go download all latest driver for all your laptop components.. Chipset, wireless, audio, graphic card and maybe bluetooth, as it may cause the problem too..

There shouldn't involving BIOS update... i think, but for me i'll keep everything up to date. Bug free, bro.

Ouch.. but less likely going to be the OS. Try reseach on google with similar problem and conctact Dell customer support and see what they say.
