memory upgrade question

My laptop came with PC2-4200 memory. Can I use PC2-5300 instead as upgrade? Is it compatible with the machine?

Yes you can, the high speed RAM on slower FSB mainboard will only down clock the speed to match it. So you could have the fastest PC2 RAM in the world that will work on the slowest PC2 mainboard. Note that PC3 or PC RAM module stick will not work with PC2.. because of the module stick is different.
