Last I heard, Christmas was AFTER Nov 7th, so there is most likely a good chance it WILL be out by Christmas!!

Yeah right! Last time I heard Engadget give a release date they were off by only 1 and a half months. I'll believe the release date when I hear it from the mouth of Dell

Why for they neuter it with GS graphics?

Hope that's a typo otherwise get the Inspiron 1520 it has the better graphics card.

Or for that matter just about any other manufacturer cause a 256meg 8600M gs= Snore.
Personally,I would have only been interested if it came with 8700GT,however early days yet,and as everyone says....its Engagdet,so who knows what the specs will end up.
1. Even engadget nixed their Nov. 7th date
2. I want my wires o come out the back, not the sides...
3. 8700gt or nothing.

Well that didn't take long. At least this time they didn't wait for their posted date to come and pass
post #9 of 24
They could of went with a higher res screen and better graphics card
post #10 of 24
I wouldn't doubt the 8600gs.....I bet it will be going for the "thin and sleek" look. We can't have everything.....they pack a bunch of horse power into the 1730 and ppl. complain it is too thick and chunky.......they make the 15" thin, light, sleek and ppl. complain it doesn't have enough power.
I still prefer my 1520. But hey, we'll see what happens when we get some concrete spec's. I also like the new 1730. It is what it is, and makes no apologies. I plan on getting a 1330 before my honeymoon cruise though, so light and thin has its purpose

Ya,couldn't agree more,it will be interesting to see how popular it is though.....even if it is a bit "underpowered" graphically compared to the vanilla vostro/inspiron.

Wow.... looks exactly like...... a M1330 LOL EXACTLY. The design team sure pulled out all the tricks up their sleeve for this one!

No I never complained about the size of 1730 just how underpowered it is. With a 1530 I'd want it to have some horsepower. Obviously not the horsepower I'd expect out of a larger laptop but I'd still like it to be more than the other 15 inch Inspiron. Lighter and less powerful I'd leave to the 13" or a 14".

I think that it's a great looking system. Depending upon the real release date, it will be a strong candidate for MbWife's laptop. The GPU will be more than enough for her applications, and if the weight is accurate in the reports, it will be nice and portable for her schooling. Plus, when it is released I'll have the advantage of getting it at the reduced military pricing.

Ya,it does look good, hope they haven't sacrificed weight for a poor build quality,if the weight is true.
i was just looking over this. if it comes with a 256 8600 or faster itd be a nice laptop.

still hard to beat a 1100.00 2.2ghz m1330 from the outlet though
