I am done with my m1710. I am saving my cash for the Clevo D901C with Q6700 Quad core, Dual 8800gtx *dec20, 3x250gb hdd RAID, WUXGA etc etc you get the point. it's the worlds most powerful notebook.

I need something with longevity and Power.

2400 with dual 7950 in SLI 8800 to soon follow. *barebones.

I will keep my m1710 for traveling.

I just want a luggable with some True Near desktop power.

oblivion runs like a hot damn on mine.

I get over 30fps outside and 60fps + inside constant @ 1900x1200 HDR every option maxxed and cranked with Vsync on.

7900gtx oc'd to 650/730.

Oblivion always ran, but I spent way more time tweaking it than I did playing it. I got really high frame rates indoor and out, but the sudden drop in frames when a new area was loading or an enemy appeared was retarded. That was with a T7600 and a heavily overclocked 7950GTX. That game should never have hit shelves in its condition. I finally threw in the towel when I loaded a game save and was told it was corrupt. And I never used any mods or tweaks.

Did you ever have any of the afore mentioned problems with Oblivion? Such as the sudden drops in framerate and such?

so didi i understand right, that you never made it work 100% smoothly?
as for me i played it for some time trying to get the settings right. independent
from the settings the game always became unplayable, when enemies arrived
outside or when a new landscape was loaded. and that happened most of the time.
as i found out not to be e really great rpg fan, i gave up and sold the game.
the game is 2 years old and still can't be run by my pc? come on. i can run
every current game of late 2007, so i question oblivion, not my pc.
and, turbo, when i look at your pc. which is even faster, that's ridiculous.

Yeah, I heard a lot about it, although I didn't experience it myself. However, I had a terrible frame rate issue in the Chernobyl undergrounds.

yeah, i had this, too. only the bar.
stalker was a game, which also didn't
get enough optimization.
after oblivion, stalker & dirt came out,
i thought this being the end for my card.
but the following games, like bioshock,
cod4, quake wars, ut3, ... i can play
all maxed out with no stuttering. and
now it's difficult to play stalker, as it starts
looking dated compared with the current fps.
i'm going to get gow next.

I agree in part about Stalker lacking optimization, but Stalker, Oblivion and Crysis, as compared to all the games you mentioned, have something in common : they have open-ended environment with a lot of dynamic effects. It sure requires more power to run them decently.
i think stalkers mediocre performance can be explained through the long developing time. it took a long time to develope, still using an old engine and old standards. and in the end, they just pushed some hdr & dynamic lights inside. they were not implemented from the beginning. that's why the game has modern lighting effects, high requirements, but still a dated look (when you look at character & animations it's most obvious). luckiliy it has brought some innovation in atmosphere, environment and gameplay, so it was still worth the 30 bucks.

that's right, too. most developers have problems using huge, free environments without loading times/stuttering. same with gothic 3. and 2 worlds.
crysis, however, is a different thing. it's just a game from the future and can only be run nicely on computers from the future.
Well clear sky (stalker next installment) hopefully will be much better optimized, although they are doing Xray 1.5 I have a feeling that things this time around will be a little better, as they've had ample time to learn from their mistakes.

The question wasn't directed at me, but since I just bought one, I thought I could share. 425 shipped. I bought it on Ebay from GeforceTony, the one user here who publishes tweaked drivers. I was a little reluctant to buy it too from Ebay. But there are a few powersellers that sell lots of them. If you look at the feedbacks, all users are satisfied with their 7950 they got from these sellers. P.S. As you probably know, A 7950 doesn't improve Crysis experience much.

I also got mine off of Ebay for $425 shipped. Guess they are holding their value, because they are still that much. I got mine in June. I have bought two cards from some guy named Balthzar or something. Don't know where he gets 'em, don't care. He's trustworthy, although his prices are not always the best.
