1920x1200 no VSYNC all high settings maxed out. Runs fairly well, I consider anything above 20 to be acceptable. Dips in a few places but still definitely playable

Do you guys think I'd be a moron if I upgraded to a WUXGA? I am completely happy with my current setup, and it will stress the hell out of my card, but for some reason I really want one. It would pretty much be my final upgrade. Has anyone upgraded from the WXGA to the WUXGA?
How much would it cost you TT for that? With your OC'd monster I think youd be able to handle 1920x1200 fairly well

Any other ?'s just ask

Not the answer you want to hear, but I wouldn't. 1. Like you said, it would stress the hell out of your card 2. Eveything is soooo small under Windows. 3. It's still a 17 inches However, my WXGA is crap. I asked myself the same question last year, and decided to buy an external 22'' instead; cheaper and bigger. And it's 1680x1050, which stresses the card less. I would personally buy a better WXGA though, for when I go mobile. My current one is so crappy...

Just to add to my point, before we go into "Hey, 1900x1200 have best textures, are crisper, etc. etc." debates...
We can assume that in the following months and year, games will be more and more demanding. This means that you might not be able to run games at such a high native resolution anymore. You'll end up running below native res.
And anyway, being the enthusiast that you are, it won't be long before you upgrade your whole system when the 8800s finally come out... Why not spare this money for this ?
it's better.

that's the ______________Line.

you can always turn the res down.

+ you can get Blu ray and HD and watch it in full 1080.

it's a nice upgrade.

+ the m1710's don't have anything lower than 1900.

i don't think you would be a moron.

1900x1200 looks crisp and nice.

i play all my games except for Crysis @ 1900. bio graw2 gow, cod4, oblivion, timeshift, all of them.

yes games than just came out now (some of them) won't be able to play at max.

most will tho. only some new games are super demanding like crysis. and not many at that.

I just bought a HD dvd drive and a Blu ray burner for my m1710.

I am super happy with it. and it looks killer when I travel playing all my HD movies.

and I can output to a TV if i choose but it looks KILLER @ 1900x1200 on my screen.

it depends on what you want.

Hey guys,

Sometimes, a game will be running then stagger to like 3-7FPS and I have to exit out and restart. My peak temps are 75 so it doesnt seem to be overheating. For some reason I have a feelling once the fans kick into high mode, its just a matter of time before it drops..........any suggestions, is there any thing I can run to see if there are errors in the GPU?

I have AS5 applied

Thanks...
actually now that i think about it ik8fan shows 60 and the nvidia panel shows 68 so im not really sure, but i8fan shows peaks when gaming at 75

running 130 brick
mine hasn't done that.

I run in the mid 90's max and have been overclocked via the bios 650/750 solid for a while now

Hey Ghaz, sorry to hear you're having problems. Have you done many AS5 jobs? Reason being that it is easier than you might think to mess it up and not have proper cooling. I8K never reports anything above 75? Do the fps jump back up after the card cools back down, or do the fps throttle and stay there? If there's a cycling effect, it's definitely a cooling issue. If it throttles and stays there, you may want to look into drivers or other software issues. Have you made any recent change that may have caused it? Let me know if it cycles. I'm gonna sleep on it.

Hey TT thanks so much for the reply

It was my first AS5 job but I cleaned eveything off with the rubbing alchoal and I looked online for a guide. I also remembered how the old AS5 was applied and try to use that as an example. Usually once the FPS drop at a low rate, they usually seem to stick and I exit out of the game. I ran Crysis at 1600x1200 with medium settings and it ran fine but I went to exit out and it got to the main screen and it froze and the sound was skipping. Im hoping its not a heat issue, I might have to order some tools to keep with me here at skool
post #436 of 494
I reinstalled XP and am using Nvidia's 84.63 driver.

I was running Crysis and quickly minimized it and the temps were reporting about 70-72 degrees.

Im praying to god the card isnt crapping out on me, I havent even OC'd it.
I second the As5 thing. It took me like 8 times with as5 on my GPU to get her right.

no kidding.

thanks for the advice, Ill look into it, is there a guide I can follow to get proper results? Ones for applying it to mobile cards? Die, did you have similar problems? do i need a 150 brick, i have a 130 now?
actually dude, I had a bunch of problems.

It did never play right (games) and my temps were erratic.

now I idle @ 47-48 and peak at about 90.

look at the sticky at the top about e1705's that Turbo made.

there will be the stuff int here for it.

I dunno, I had a 130 to start and it blew up. I found out that it was a good adapter not a cheapo which I thought.

I got another 130 and it quit on me, now I got 2x 150's off of flebay and I have no problems..

maybe just my machine or I dunno. but she's tip top right now.

I just added a blu ray burner external slimline and a slimline HD drive.

I am putting an expresscard x-fi with a 7.1 speaker DAC module for my PCM AV-Receiver.

then a 320gb HDD for main drive and 250gb PATA for my second.

Then a firewire RAID 1 Array with dual 750's for 1.5tb of HDD space fully packable and will fit in my bag.

now I just gotta find money for groceries for the next 2 weeks and I wll be ok hey?

but that's my plan. and then she will be 100% Fully operational HTPC/Media Center Extreme!

goodluck for the AS5.

also you can go to AS5.com or whatever the site is. and they have instructions for Small Die's

What I do is pull her off heatsync and clean the bitch.

then I drop 1 tiny blob, and I mean tiny in the center. then I carefuly put her heatsync back on and screw her hard!
Thanks for the in depth replay Die, it helps alot.

Im going to uninstall i8fan because i have a feeling it could possibly be interfering with the Nvidia temp monitor. I figure, 2 programs doing the same task (measure the GPU temps) could possibly cause problems, so well see how it goes.

Do you put the tiny drop on the Core itself or in the middle of the heatsink???

Thanks for all the replies, you guys rock a whole lot, keep the suggestions coming........
