8800m GS m1730 - Page 2

I've seen benches of the 8700M not even equaling a 6800 Ultra. But I've also seen some where it compares to the 7950.

On XP I got 7998 on 3d06.


I've heard from several people that 3DMark06 isn't optimized well for Vista and DX10 hence the lower scores if you try it that route.

Heck ya. windows vista sucks! I didnt even want to consider runnin 3d06 on vista... Vista over all just takes to long to do anything!

I didnt try it on Vista... Vista was so slow and buggy and non of my software work, I almost threw the disc away... but I didnt ahha

I don't even see what people see in Vist .......granted it is a little prettier but not worth takeing the crunch in performance then the driver issues and needing more ram to operate games and software then just the added tax it puts on hardware man that sux!

I would have loved to seen Microsoft just put all the cash they put into crappy vista and compleatly reworked and tweaked the crap outa XP Pro/Media center.

vista is garbage, too much Digital Rights Management.

they have drm for every driver in vista. in the future if you put a piece of HW that vista doesn't approve of they can revoke the rights to it. so it doesn't work on your machine.

same for unaproved drivers. () i.e lv2go.. mobileforce etc..

and some of you say ya right.... but read up on it. there is whole books on vista and everything behind drm.

sounds like HDCP (wich is DRM in iteslf.) they can revoke keys to your player or brick your player if you are playing unaproved discs (copies etc.)

freedom, rights.

open source for life.

diefool, thank you SO much for that link. I loved the read, and I am glad I went there. anybody else that might stumble upon this and haven't read that bit of knowledge, do so. it's quite lengthy but very eye opening. if you want you can skip to the conclusions to pique your interest, and then go back and read the not-so-technical-but-sometimes-over-your-head digression.

Progneta, those are nice specs on your blue M1370. Just kidding, but you might want to fix your signature. Would you mind posting some numbers in the FRAPS benchmark thread? I've invited half a dozen M1730 owners to come in there, but no dice.

hey why don't you download GPU Z, and take a screen shot with it... it should finally reveal whether it is 8700GT or 8800GS... it should say the number of pipes and the 256bit bus or 128bus.

from what ive read performance wise the 8700 and 8800gs would be the same card and a pointless release only the 8800 gtx has the incresed performance & 256bit. saying that i ran the crysis demo on my 7900gtx all set to best performance and was running 20-50fps @ 1920x1200 and was quite playable and looked decent enough. tbh in any action game those details are useful for 10 seconds until you start playing it then for me anyway you dont eyeball every explosion you play the game and things happen as they should all this quest for an nth degree if improved IQ is Pure Ego.

And on vista, could be the release of windows 98 for all the same things being said, its simple microsoft owns the market and you shouldnt upgrade until xp's no longer supported as going from 98 to xp was the same by 98 being not supported xp was finally half decent.

if you guys want the look of vista without having the vista issue there are skins out there that mask the XP to a vista look i use it right now and i like that i can leave somethings in XP and change somethings to vista... just google vista transformation....
