No Audio Device...

Hello All,

I am new to thee forum and in need of some assistance. Hopefully someone can help me out a bitski as I am at a loss.

Over the weekend I realized that my audio was MIA on my laptop. I have a Toshiba and I am running windows XP.

My Audio Device is Realtek. That is about all the information I can find, that still exists in visibility on my laptop.

My Boyfriend's Friend attempted to uninstall and reinstall a few drivers that he thought would fix my sound. Low and behold no luck.

When I mean my sound is MIA, I mean just that. I go under control panel into "sound and audio device" and there is nothing in any category in that area.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Yes, I know my information is not very solid but I am still greatly confused as to how this ocurred.

A friend of mine suggested, system restore. However, I have my doubts about that.

If anyone has any ideas, has ever heard/experienced anything like this, please please enlighten me! I would greatly apprecaite any help! If more information is needed feel free to ask and I will do my best in fulfilling.

Much thanks in advance!

Right click the my computer Icon on your desktop and click properties. Then click the hardware tab. then click Device Manager. In the list that shows up is there anything that has a question mark on it?

Everything under "Sound, video, and game controllers" has a yellow bubble with a black exclamation mark inside. Also, when I click on one of them ie: "audio condecs" under properties Device Status reads, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

--which I Knew was missing.

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

That is every single component under that category of, "Sound, Video, and game controllers"

No, before you ask I have not yet attempted to troubleshoot any.

Right click and uninstall all of them. Restart your laptop and see if the drivers are able to reload themselves.
