Anyhow, can you quickly run that sucker on stock through 3DMark05? That's the bench I use most, since 06 is skewed toward high-end 'features' that give you points, whereas 05 is just game examples (i.e. you only have to run the GAMES tests to get a total score on 05). Whenever you get a minute, that would be great...should be between 12-14,000, I'm guessing. I also have no doubt that the drivers and some overclocking would have that sucker over the 8000 mark on 06, and over 14,000 on 3D05, which is not bad considering the 8700 sux nutz (Toshiba has one in their Walmart box, ffs...oh, the humanity!). I cannot believe that no other drivers work in SLI...that really blows. Hopefully the crazies at Laptopvideo2go will be able to hack in a fix for Dell and other new lappies with SLI cards. Actually, now that I think of it, what the hell do all the Alienware and Sager people use for drivers? There have been 7950 SLI rigs for awhile, now. I wonder if it has something to do specifically with the Directx-10 spec of the 8700?!? Anyhow, you might check with some of the dudes on those other forums, to see if they can run hacked nvidia drivers, or if they have to wait for their manufacturers to update as well. Congrats on the new lappie, it's good to hear you're satisfied. Here's hoping the 150 watt graphics upgrade is here before Christmas (or at least by Groundhog Day, ffs)! Edit: Sry...I also wanted to ask whether it was hard to format/install XP...some other bloke on these forums pointed out that you need the RAID driver on a floppy at the beginning of the XP install, so he had to 'slipstream' these onto the actual XP Disc (no floppy) before it would work...how did you do it? TIA>
... I just wrote out the floppy version, didnt notice you wanted without floppy. ahah With floppy is super easy. Try googling it. I saw it somewhere on a site. I just never had to do it cause I have always had this USB floppy. Prog

Prog does the 1730 offer USB flash drive floppy emulation through the BIOS>? If so you can use that to emulate a floppy disk. W/Vista they support installing 3rd party drivers with other methods besides floppy disks during installation...finally

And just FYI on the AHCI & NCQ that is a "benefit" of the AHCI mode.... Performance wise.... It doesn't do squat. I have it setup on my desktop machine in Vista & XP. When I switch between AHCI & SATA (IDE emulation- which disables NCQ) there is no noticeable performance difference. You can simply boot the machine into the BIOS setup & switch to IDE mode for a simpler install if you don't feel like messing with it.

I've formatted my flash drive as a floppy drive before but it was awhile ago. I can't exactly remember how it was recognized by the OS.

Im not sure about the usb. I would get a usb floppy... well the cost like 30.00 but they come in handy for times of reinstalling windows ( i like to reinstall windows...ahha I find myself doing it about every 3-6 months! hahahaha

Well if you have a single drive, like me, I told windows to use AHCI and it works banging good!

To me the keyboard fells like the 1710... However when I get carried away in typing and hit the keys really hard. The keyboard dips inward a little bit. But other than that, its fine.

I would say its the same. My friend has the same keyboard as a matter of fact and I just compared the two. haha

This is a well built computer. I especially like how tight the lcd screen is! It doesnt wobble at all. Very nice!

Ok you have to use the latest Nvflash (correction), you have to pull the vbios for each GPU (there are 2 vbios on this card. GPU0 and GPU1). You have to edit the clocks in both to be the same. I will write a guide when I get a chance. (today or tomorrow). You also have use the correct flash commands. Zyb

Why dont you upload a copy here or rather both copies?

Ok here are the vbois's for the 8700m GT sli card:

http://www.filefactory.com/file/d6b42a/

Vbois version:
gpu0.rom (vbios version= 60.84.62.00.06)
gpu1.rom (vbios version= 60.84.62.00.07)

My disclaimer: Not responsible if you kill you card. For advance users only.. For you non-advanced user.. Please wait.. The forum guru's will post a simplified update solution (Yes you can kill you cards).

You have to use Nvflash to pull the vbios from the cards (Nibitor will only see 1 card GPU0)

Nvflash command

Nvflash -a (list all video cards on the system)
Nvflash -i x (set the card that is being read or flashed , x= 0 or 1)
Nvflash -b <filename.rom> Save the vbios from a video card

vbios extraction command:
nvflash -i 0 -b vbios0.rom
nvflash -i 1 -b vbios1.rom

Vbois version:
(gpu0 vbios version= 60.84.62.00.06)
(gpu1 vbios version= 60.84.62.00.07)

Ok heres how to flash both vbios to the card.

My disclaimer: Not responsible if you kill your card. For advance users only.. For you non-advanced user.. Please wait.. The forum guru's will post a simplified update solution (Yes you can kill you cards).

Vbios flash command:
Nvflash -i 0 vbios0.rom
nvflash -i 1 vbios1.rom

WARNING'S:
Be sure to flash both gpu's before rebooting.
Be sure you flash the right vbios to the right card 0 to 0, 1 to 1.

Later,
Zyb

go for it.

Oh yeah, dude! Flash that f*cker! Overclock until yer cards burn up, then invoke yer Complete Care Overclocking Clause:

"7.b.iii. - The end-user shall not be responsible for clock speed adjustments made, given they are less than one-half again (+150%) original (i.e. 'stock') factory clocks." **

Woohoo! License to burn, baby!

**This statement may or may not be complete fabrication (i.e. 'phooey').

totally agree with this.

they can't tell that you overclocked her.

right before she starts to die, flash back to stock clocks.

hey bob, you should use fraps and add some scores to the fraps benchmarks threads.

try 1900x1200 and 1440x900.

fraps is a better benchmark tool
