Yeah, things used to get ugly at 200 MHz on the ultra. I will have to play with this setting a little though.

debaucher & Pieter,

thanks for all the good info and hard work guys. Let me get this right, to try and fix the distortion issue... Today I am going to unlock my bios and then install riva tuner. In rivatuner I am going to set my 2d clock to 80-100 core & 121 memory. And then I should be good no matter what drivers I use... right? OR... Do I have to use the LV2G drivers with the "bandwidth factor" tweak?

Really you should try to do this below the drivers, that is if you are comfortable. Modify your 2d clocks on an unlocked bios and then flash it.

hmmmmmmmm, I'm not sure how comfortable I am with NiBiTor. Soooo they way I said I was going to try to fix it should work... right?

The end effect should be the same. Its just that you are relying on the drivers to set these clocks for you.

The Bandwidthfactor tweak is build into the latest INFs already
So you DON"T have to flash the BIOS as this will just increase the Mem clock.
The BIOS flash in the end is the better over all option as you can then set the 2D clock to the minimum required to stop the distortion, and have maximum power savings.

The Bandwidth fix just inreases the mem clock to 3D low power setting, not ideal when on battery but better than not having WUXGA

Yea, I personally feel the bios flash with an unlocked bios and even the 2D clocks adjusted is the best choice.
This way, you can adjust the 2D (and 3D) with software and the problem is gone.
But, if you are afraid to flash your vid card, then just using the modded drivers is the easiest option.

here is an update: Last night I unlocked my 7950GTX and o/c'd the 2d to 100/121 with riva tuner and installed GeforceTony's newest Vista drivers and unplugged my power source. Yay! no distortion... I dunno if Tony's drivers have the Bandwidth Factor or not but.... one way or another its fixed for now.

thearod, by setting your 2D clocks to 100/121 you fixed the bandwidth issue (the memory is running at a faster clock and therefore is able to handle the bandwidth needed).
The inf tweak is just another way to fix the bandwidth issue without having to flash your vid card.

The way you did it is best (in my opinion) but some people may be afraid to try and flash which is where the inf tweak comes in.

As for GeforceTony's vista drivers, I don't believe they have the bandwidth tweak, but you don't need to worry about that anymore as you have your 2D clocks set up correctly via bios flash.

I still have stock clocks on my 2D (and Low-3D) but I have never experienced this issue with my 7950GTX. I fully understand what you guys are talking about however.

What are your stock 2D clocks ?
Do you have the WUXGA screen ?
Do you use 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 ?

Ya know, I just noticed that I too am getting this distortion (with my Vista machine, 2nd rig in signature) when opening certain programs (Trillian and EverQuest II LaunchPad most notably). Strange, however, is that the "bandwidth tweak" is enabled. Maybe I'll have to break down and flash with the unlocked BIOS on this machine and change the 2D clocks or something.

I was having the same issue with corrupted windows opening and such. I just upped the 2D settings and walla.. problem solved. Kudos to whoever found the solution.

Well, just flashed to the unlocked BIOS on my Vista machine, and upped the 2D memory clocks from 100MHz to 150MHz and voila, no more distortion (this with the 169.04 drivers). Kind of an odd fix, but it works.

2d clocks 100/100, screen is WUXGA, andI have used 1920 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 on an HDTV.

Anyway, I have been using windows a little more recently but I am a Linux guy mainly. I dont think I looked over it though.

Its cool though, any other fixes anyone needs, just post a description of the problem and make sure the problem is across multiple drivers. I will update the first post to address key issues.
