So is the 8400 the best I'm gonna get in a small chassis.. 12.1/13.3? or are there any other brands that have a 8500/8600.

Video cards are more important to people in this forum.. figured I would get more response... I'll also post there.

Yep, as to my knowledge 8400m's are going to be the best you're getting on that size. Heat restrictions suck =/

just phase change cool your 12" and you can get a desktop 8800GTX going.

I think the 8400 is the highest

gonna kinda suck to go backwards in framerates but I'm starting to travel alot and really need something smaller than my e1705... the m1330 is probably my best bet. I'm assuming HL2 will probably be the latest game I'll be playing at decent framerates with an 8400 gs ... right?

You could probably play even more recent ones, however you'll have to lower the settings to be just very low.

im pretty sure the half life engine (source) will struggle on an 8400. luckily, they (the half life series)tend to be well optimized and are scalable for older hardware

8400M is best on 13" for now.

Sony has very interesting GPU system on their 13" though.

Hybrid GPU - 8400M and intel's integrated GPU in one system. Wish it worked as SLI, but it doesn't.

Also, people shopping for 12/13 inch laptops are generally looking for portability (this is just an assumption, but it implies some logic). Neways, people looking for portable laptops most likely want decent battery life. Putting in a dedicated GPU would cut down on the battery life.

Howver, there are people looking for small screens and big performance and they will most likely have to do some hunting to find hardware that supports their needs
