How to get 1394 to work on M9750

??? I can't get my M9750 to recognize my camcorder. I plug it in with a firewire cable that still works with my Dell but the M9750 doesn't recognize it. I thought maybe I had the wrong driver because I switched from Vista to XP but Alienware Support had me check the driver and said the 1394 port should be working. Any suggestions?

go under network connections and make sure you have the 1394 enable under it hopefully this will fix it...

The 1394 is Enabled and should be working.

if it doesnt work delete the 1394 and reinstall the driver...

I tried reinstalling the driver but it had no effect.

Alienware said the 1394 port is part of the mother board and if I can't get it to work I should send the computer in and they might have to replace the mother board.

Does the m9750 have a full firewire, or a firewire mini?

Isn't there a firewire with power (full) and the mini firewire that doesn't have power supplied...?

If that's the case, the firewire will only work with self powered devices...

Also, is there support software for your camera? Sometimes devices won't be recognized without support software or drivers pre-loaded.

The 9750 has firewire mini. My three year old Dell notebook also has firewire mini and my camcorder works with it. My camcorder didn't come with any software and none was required for Windows Movie Maker to recognize the camera on my old Dell. Tomorrow I will borrow a known working firewire hard drive. If it works on my 9750 I will know the pc is fine. Thanks for considering this, Hammerhead. I really respect your input. dt
