MY friend is trying to downgrade to XP as Vista is just causing too much grieve - not to mention a huge performance hit. Since the system has a SATA controller, the XP install would not recognize the HD so, I d/led the controller drivers from Gateway and slipstreamed an install disc. IT then recognized the HD but, after the format and install it gives me a disc read error when it reboots to begin the install. Would this be a problem with the slipstream? Any ideas? Since the laptop doesn't have a floppy I don't know of any other way to do this. I don't think a USB floppy would be recognized.
