Inspiron 6000 Monitor Won't Turn On

My Inspiron 6000 is more than a year old, and I've recently been having problems with it. The system boots up (I can hear the Windows start up music) but the monitor won't turn on. I notice that the second (middle) display light on the lower right-hand edge of the monitor flickers erratically. I've already tried pressing Fn + F8 to make sure I didn't accidentally switch the display to CRT, but nothing happens.

Please help me figure out what's causing this. Do I need to replace the LCD or is it a minor problem, like some loose wiring or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try reseating the LCD flex cable first up, it could have come loose.

For instructions, go to the following and perform steps 1 & 2. Then pull out the cable marked with the number 2 in the first picture on that page and reseat it. Here:

Hi Stu,

Thanks so much for your reply. My knees get all shaky when I think about having to open my laptop up, but I'll go over the instructions in the link that you sent once more to decide if it's something I can manage.

One more thing. I don't quite get the part about how I can get rid of static before I open up my computer... Thanks again.

Don't worry about that too much, not really gonna affect parts you are dealing with. Just make sure you have disconnected power and battery before attempting to crack it open even that little bit.

just another quick question. If you look at the monitor while the computer is on w/ a light behind you can you see anything on the monitor at all? It would be a really dark image.

Doesn't affect the image at all really... although if you have a gloss screen you could wave and pull faces at yourself...

Reseating the cable didn't work, so I took it to a repair shop. Apparently, the problem was with the touchpad. Strange. Hehe. Thanks again for your reply!!!
