Welllllll I did it...After all this hype and build up of PC's I wanted a upgrade....So I hopped on newegg and did the build...She should be here thursday ready for me to build...I ended up with a 900Watt power supply because it came with a free hard drive, and I need a hard drive LOL...I ended up with a MSI 8800Ultra OC for two reasons, 1 is was 75$ more then a 8800gtx and two its a ultra and I keep telling everybody else to get one so I don't wanna be a hypocrit...here is my build...

I sold my comp for 1200 + 40 for a old memory rebate should be here anyday now.....

The new comp was 1637 shipped minus 120 in rebates sooo total would come to 1517 minus other moneys I have:

1637-160(40 old memory rebate) = 1477 or 277$ For the upgrade, plus I sold a friends heli that he hasn't seen in 6 months LOL made a 100, soooo 177 for the upgrade

Wow that Ultra is going to be a tight fit if at all in that case...
Any reason you picked that CPU cooler btw? for the price range I would've gone with the TR-Ultra120 or Tuniq Tower for sure.

I looked at Tuniq's and didn't like the reviews or ease of installation they offered on it...I wanted a clean looking setup and the asus wasn't to flash, silver with small blue led.

That ultra is going to be a bi### to install, however I have put a 8800GTX in it no problems, how much bigger is the ultra?
FYI that MSI 8800 Ultra is the same one I have in my sig running 713/2350. I have been really happy with it.

looks to be about 1.5 inches longer

my gtx's hit the back of my hard drives in the 900 case. I had to put the hd bays in the top, dvd drvies at the very bottom and leave the center bays completely empty.

Max, I will only have 1 hard drive for now. I will put it up top, like I did in my old comp....As for being 1.5 inches longer, where did you get that number?

Also new egg couldn't verify my CC and through a bunch of litigation and prices going up from last night to today..

I ended up getting it all for 1618 instead of 1637....WOOOHOO

I will pull these pics later if you want me to, after you start showing your build, but here are some pics showing you the exact card you are getting lol. you can see it's longer than the motherboard

Oh Fuk....That is big...Will this fit in a Antec 900, if I don't have any hard drives in the way?
yeah it wil fit....barely. My case the lower & middle drive bay is completely removable. When I installed the card I removed the lower drive bay, installed the 8800 & then reinstalled the drive bay. It will be a little tight, but it should work lol. (BTW I love your response)

Man You suck Sol, I thought it was the same size as the GTX...I know the GTX Fit ok, but just had to move hard drives up.

Man the GTS 640mb had PLENNNNTY of room lol.
I personally dunno how the hell you're going to get it in there if you had to scramble to fit the 8800GTX in
post #14 of 43
Nice build, but I'm not a big fan of the Antec 900. Also, for a cooler I'm partial to Thermalright. I have their SI-128 and it is one of the best Air coolers I've ever used.

Have you ever used a GTX? Or a Ultra? Do you know exactly how big each of them is?

The GTX is a Big Card, and if i'm not mistaken prolly almost the same size if the same size as a Ultra.

I guess we'll find out....New egg is taking forever on this order, I told them if they couldn't process my credit card by tonight, cancel the entire order LOL, stupid new egg.
Check online for comparison pics. I saw one of them with a Ultra on top of the 8800GTX. I tell ya, it's about 1.5 inches longer ehh maybe 1", somewhere around there

Hmm nvm then, I guess it's only EVGA that has the overextension
post #19 of 43
Still that shroud definitely adds some clearance issues that the GTX doesn't have.

Looks hella cool though
