ThinkVantage Update Retriever

Thread Starter
Hi,
I am having some trouble getting the ThinkVantage Update Retriever to Get New Updates.
Update Retriever is installed on a Win2k3 machine. When I run the program straight after its been installed the "Get New Updates" link is greyed out(disabled) and it sends me to the Import Updates Screen.
I have uninstalled it serveral times and reinstalled but it never gives me the First Time Setup screen.
When I uninstalled it I removed any left over registry entries to do with lenovo\thinkvantage. I have deleted all files in Program Files and I couldnt find any in %appdata%.
I guess my question is how do I start this program from scratch and run through the First Time Setup wizard, enabling Get New Updates.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Loris

Its for supporting 600+ users, we dont want each user to go off to ibm\lenovo site and download updates from the internet for obvious reasons..
Their laptops are pre-configured to look at a local repository which Update Retriever looks after.

Thanks.

u checked the info from lenovo site, i gather?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...VAN-SUADM.html

there r 3 packages in total, u can get away with just 2. Any info u can share on ur server? Did it work before?

Yep I have all 3packages..
It worked in the past, with a different version to what im currently using.
The bug is that when you install it for the first time you get the first time setup like you are meant to. If you uninstall it and reinstall it you no longer get the first time setup instead your directed to the import update page which i dont want to do. Also even if I do import the updates I have, successfully, it still doesnt enable the Get New Updates link on the left.

I did some testing and installed it on 2 other xp machines and both do the same thing. After a REinstall it automatically goes to import updates. There has to be a way to force it to do a first time install again. Ive read the deployment guide which shows best practises etc and still it does the same thing.
I even rang lenovo and they told me they dont support the product and referred me to the deployment guide.

Server is a Win2k3 R2 Standard S2
Intel Xeon 1.86ghz
1gb ram

Thanks,
Loris

short of a complete re.install of ur environment, i would suggest that u try to un.install again, with this time going into the registry and zap out anything (registry entries) that relates to update retriever

use cCleaner to assist u out in cleaning registry also

just tried cCleaner did a reinstall and still not giving me the first time setup.. really cant rebuild the server as there are other services on the machine which must stay online.

may be u have already seen this.

try also regCleaner after the un.install - i still believe that somehow certain registry entries from previous installations still lurk around. remove all related directories pertaining to previous installations could help

cheers ...
