Leopard to be released on 26th!!! Just PreOrdered :D - Page 3

Tria, please see the chip I posted about.

They were coming, and before Apple had made the switch I believe the prototypes were already going.

But in general Kakaze, for the reasons I have mentioned about the chips that were in the pipeline, and Apple knew about, I don't think the technology was nearly as big of a reason as it is made out to be. So you and I certainly disagree on that one, not the first topic we have

the specs look good but call me a skeptic. i can't see a company like Apple taking a shot on an upstart company when the company was on the upswing that it's in now. it'd be cool to see any kind of comparison between these chips and intel's offerings though.

Thing is, most of Apple's upswing came from the switch. And it wasn't the fact that the processors were better, it was much more having to do with that people could run Windows on it if they desired, making the transition choice much easier for many people fed up with Windows, or more especially, not wanting to touch vista with a 100' pole.

Yes apple had a slight upswing before the switch I believe, but not mch of one. Especially compared to this.

As I have said repeatedly, I don't think that the processor capabilities had as much to do with it. There were lots of other reasons, the most notable being that people could now run Windows on it, and a secondary to that, it was MUCH easier to port programs over to it, allowing for tons of new software. While both of those have to do with the arch, they don't have to do with the overall performance capabilities as much as basic design differences(PPC vs x86). PPC as an architecture is still very capable, and likely could have matched Intel/AMDs growth without that much problems.

That pretty much sums up the final straw/reason for the switch for me. As soon as I could easily run school required programs on a Mac and the death of my Dell I bought a MBP and never looked back.

I hate to sound like a fanboy but it seems I am still constantly finding things in the Mac OS that make me go "that was a great idea". Even after a year it still feels new and still makes me appreciate how OS X works.

Ok sorry. Now back to your regularly scheduled technical programming. Brought to you by Notebookforums and Apple.

Hell I've been using a Mac full time for three years and part time for about five before that and I still find new stuff.

While licences will expire when Leopard launches, Apple has confirmed that Windows partitions created with Boot Camp will continue to work. However, the Boot Camp Assistant, software that sets up and manages Windows partitions, will not. Apple also has said that it will stop delivering driver updates to beta users. - Link to Article (Found via Engadget)
So what I read here is that the partition already made will work but once the 26th rolls around thats it. You wont be able to create a new partition or even redo your existing one without Leopard. Kind of a bummer to hear that but at least your current partition will still be there.

Partition is not a problem for me, I need to do it by hand anyways. The real question is going to be drivers.

If you leave the bootcamp app on your hard drive, you can show the package contents and dig out the drivers folder.

Or just save your original burned disk, that should still work for drivers.

I'm really looking forward to Leopard! I've pre-ordered it for my iMac and was lucky enough to slip in under the up-to-date program with my MacBook Pro (though the up-to-date program doesn't guarantee delivery on the 26th).

I just got my e-mail that the pre-order is shipping. I chose the free shipping option and apple is sending it priority over night via Fed Ex. Looks like I will be having fun tomorrow installing tomorrow :P
