Is that a single slot card?

yes
maybe there's an electro-magnet that produces air flow
post #25 of 57
no, you cannot see it from that view, but there is a small chamber to place a piece of dry ice that needs to be replaced every hour. For an additional $550 you can add the LN² cooling system.

If they had managed to create a card that was
a-more powerful than the GTX
b-used a single slot solution instead of a dual slot
c-ran so cool to only need a single slot & tiny HS like that.

This thing would be spammed on every site out there. They would be screaming about how you no longer lost 2 slots & how heat problems were solved...Oh & the 8800m would be right behind it

This new 8800 gts uses the new 65nm process, instead of the 90nm of the old one, that would effect cooling greatly... Or so we keep hearing about. My EVGA 6800GT was only a single slot, but I did install an aftermarket dual slot on it.

Even with a die shrink I don't see them compacting it that much. Not to mention if it was to be a direct competitor to the GTX they would have opened up the memory bus all the way. I think it's a smaller form factor GTS.

I'm interested. Don't have room for it to use 2 slots. I needs them all.

Guess that makes me less of a power gamer...

...GTFO? The title power gamer is not necessarily one that brings popularity or fame

However I just seen the M1730 and Holy Batman what a gorgeous looking laptop,I may end up selling my new rig and funding that laptop....LOL

I think you should calm yourself for a bit and reasonably think before jumping from system to system.
Naaaa jumping system to system, is what keeps me waking up every morning....I have a reason / motivation, then comes the determination.

Trading a PC that will literally 2x as powerful as the laptop might be a little hasty. Especially considering the cost of the laptop over the desktop lol, not to mention you have not even gotten the desktop yet lol.

lol I would consider trying to buy a notebook as a second computer so you can have the best of both worlds

Yeah....the laptop would costerformance in comparison to the desktop would be 1:4 (laptop:desktop)

buncha party poopers, I guess i'll just wait for my system to come first lol.
Sorry for saving you from a $1500 mistake

Curious what does the 1730 score in 3DMark06, it has a 8700GT video card. Which is odd, i'm suprised they haven't released a 8800 series yet.
8800 series is still a bit off...Heat issues. stock I think it pulls around 7500-8kk, of course the 8700 is an OC'ed 8600, so it's probably close to it's limit.

Stock you should pull 12.5k w/ your setup. My setup I pull 13,940 OC'ed. You add the fact that the 8700's only have a total of 256MB of RAM total between them & at higher resolutions they literally start to fold under the pressure.
