Touchpad not working

I started my computer up yesterday and the touchpad was not working. It has nothing to do with the FN key either. Does this wear out after awhile? I've had my acer2025 since the summer of 2004. Any troubleshooting to check if it is just broken?

nm. It started working again. I think it's gone nuts. I didnt attempt to do anything. I was just going to attach an external mouse and it started working.

Open that thing up and make sure the ribbon cable that goes to the touch pad has a good connection. If it does and still craps out, start looking on eBay.

You need to take apart your touchpad and make sure everything is connected properly and not loose. I do not think it is a software problem.

A little late coming to this thread but I'm going everywhere I can to warn whoever I can that these things suck the big one and always have ,,,Synaptics means SUCKS

ACER's touchpads suck the wanker as I spent a freaking grand on this Aspire 7740 5142 and I'm ready to break thedamn thing into two

It's sitting on my desk and never moves because it needs a mouse to reliably navigate. Not only that.... when you're typing on the shiiite keyboard thats so spread out my 12 inch span hands cant type on it but freaking breathing on the POS makes the touchpad move so ya have to turn it off every freakin time you type...... but try scrolling with it, it'd be easier to get Dog the bounty hunter to cut his freakin mullet.

P O royal shiite:#
