other observations:

Undervolting works! (although it doesn't seem to be saving my settings between sessions)

As typical, installing is easier once you know what you're doing, but recognition of what needed to be installed (automatic detection of needed audio/video codecs, for instance) seems better than it was in Feisty as well, although that could be because I installed all of the needed codecs first in Feisty.

edit: also, links in Firefox open in tabs instead of new windows as they did in Feisty

overall, I'm pretty impressed so far!

okay, tweaked a couple options, and now both going into and coming out of suspend both seem to work fine, so suspend works!

that's a setting in FF. you can set it to open either way.

well, I'm SUPPOSED to be able to set it either way, but I had it set to open in tabs in Feisty and it still didn't do it. In Windows it does and now in Gutsy it does.

Yeah not so much.

I will be trying that soon. I wonder if it was Feisty or the fact that FF is now 2.0.0.8
post #28 of 52
lol. I changed it in feisty.

Edit: you guys didn't upgrade FF to 2.0? maybe that's it.

I used 2.0.0.2 and 2.0.0.3 in Feisty, as I recall

hmm.. okay, there's one thing so far that I don't like in Gutsy- the Compiz workspace switcher is really twitchy, and it will kick in and bounce me around between 2 workspaces when I don't want it to. It kinda makes me dizzy.

Turn it off?

Turn it off?

well yeah, I could do that... but it's part of the overall "desktop effects" and I haven't figured out how to change any parts of it- I can just turn effects on or off

things buggin' me (gutsy x86-64 gnome):
-- boot time is longer than ever
-- no progress bar / splashscreen during boot (just black screen till gdm shows)
-- music/pictures/videos in "Places" menu very pointless
-- visual effects menu is only "off, medium, high" ... no customized tweaks

huh. I still get the progress bar.

I'm sure the extra folders are to make transitioning from Windows easier

and I found how to do the aforementioned customized tweaks. you have to get a package called compizconfig-settings (or something like that- don't hold me to the exact name), and then you can tweak stuff. However, I definitely agree that the ability to tweak should have come standard.

extra folders are pointless, can be edited though.

boot time is faster than feisty slower than edgy.
still slow relative to other distros. a major problem with ubuntu

slow as ever, moved from elive gem e17 just flys compared to this

installed beryl manager for extra options

with a little tweaking becomes a pretty solid distro.

So are you going to change your Sig now BigEE1212?

I apologize for my OCD, but it's gutsy gibbon, not gusty gibbon.

seems the lack of progress bar is a common issue reported in RC1 yet it still made its way to final. it ahs to do with a bad usplash.conf file more or less. '

boot time was just painfully slow. we are talking more than 2 minutes. that is by far the worst boot time i ever experienced except with Suse 10.1which was just shy of 3 minutes.

basically i have established that for my purposes 7.10 is broken and i will not be using it.

I don't think you can properly say that a long boot time, and lack of progress bar on boot constitute a broken release. buggy maybe, but not broken.
