Mic Output issue with Toshiba Satellite a205-s4577

Guys, i need some help over here!

The problem is that I can't get any microphone feedback through my laptop's speakers.

The microphone is working just fine, i've been recording some audio with it lately. This also happens with the built-in mic.

Could it be an issue with the sound drivers?

By the way, I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition, but I also have Windows XP SP2 installed in my system. and it the same history.. so it can't be and OS related problem..

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!

I got an update!
I've installed XP now, and when I open output sound devices control, i don't have a mic slide bar. Tried to add it,but it isn't there.
Could it be that my audio card doesn't support mic output??
Thanks in advance!

Got an update.
I installed XP, and when i went to the output sound control, noticed that the mic output is not there! tried to add it, but it's just not there.
Could it be that my sound card doesn't support mic output?? It's seems like such a basic feature to me..
Thanks in advance!

What exactly is Mic Output?

Mic Input is one thing, speaker output of the mic signal is another. But Mic Output generally refers to the signal being output by the microphone itself, which doesn't make sense in your post.

Oops.. thought I was being clear enough. I meant speaker output of the mic signal.
I apologize about my english!

It could be a few things, most likely is the lack of a hardware mixer on your soundcard that can mix that signal. So you will likely need to have software that supports, software monitoring, and essentially monitor it as you record it through the software.

But isn't it such a basic feature? Is it normal for a sound card not being able to mix that kind of signal? I don't think so.. I'll mail toshiba about this.
One more question: can you name any software that could do the trick?
Thanks a lot for your assistance, Seablade!!

Most audio editing software has the capability of doing this. I haven't used Windows for audio in a long time though, so I can't be sure, or recommend much that you could use it for. Audacity si a good one to look at and try though I suppose.

Youd be amazed how often the lack of a decent hardware mixer shows up in sound cards, I would email Toshiba and see what they say about it though.
