SZ touchpad replacement

ive been having issues for quite a while where the touchpad works in reverse motion (up is down, left is right, etc) which i found info on recently; http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...-reversed.html

this has occured in 4 different OS's; XPP, Vista Ulti, Ubuntu 7.x, and Fedora Core 6 which definately leads me to believe it is a hardware issue (never loaded any drivers at all for *nix)

ive also had the mouse go crazy where it acts as if its clicking everything (left and right) menus flash up things go crazy and cursor end up at edge of screen flashing.

my SZ is out of warranty and i have another with a 3year warranty i want to steal the touchpad off and then send that one in. appears there's 3 diff components to the touchpad so should i replace all? anyone else replace theirs yet?

Can't you invert the touchpad directions in the settings? Does the problem occur right after a reformat as well?

yes, it has happened after reformats, fresh installs, sony factory restore from dvds. i've probably reloaded this laptop 12 times in the past year messing around with different OS's and whatnot the fact it does it in other OS's is very bothering.

there is no way to invert the touchpad settings with the provided options, and even if i did i would have to flip back and forth again and again.

one thing i have noticed is is happens far far less when i have the fingerprint sensor disabled and QLprotector suite disabled.

but it also bothers me that other folks have had the same issues.

Dude, this is definitely a known issue - confirmed by Sony Support. I'm sending mine back for repair in the next few days. If it happens agains... I'm totally disgusted with Sony for releasing such crap (and so expensive too). I dont know if yours is out of warranty but if this is a known issue, it seems only fair that Sony should have to fix it regardless. I hope more people find this thread and make more people aware of this reverse, inverse, mouse touchpad pointer problem issue <- for the sake of keyword matching!

FYI a sony rep told me that the touchpad was "physically connected to the motherboard" thus the whole motherboard would need to be replaced for $600 outside of the warranty... Sounds like a lot of bullshit to me and I have no intention of paying for a problem with their crappy manufacturing even if I have to complain to the BBB. Sony support: 888-476-6972: Option 5, then 2
