Unless you go to a 64bit OS you will only get 3 gigs of system ram and 1 gig of video ram. 32 bit OS ONLY support 4 gigs of memory addressing so you have to decide what is going to get that space.
Well I guess I could then just upgrade to 3gb and that would be most cost efficient, yeah?
no for the price of the 2 Gb kits put the 4 in
post #229 of 261
you can't do 3 anyway...you can do 1 , 2 , 4 DDR2 doesn't recognize anything otherwise.

You sure? I don't really see why it wouldn't....

once you enable 2 gb ram, it goes into dual channel mode, which in that point has to be done in the same size sticks...Plus its 60$ for 2 gigs so why risk it not working?

Youve been misinformed. 1+2 will work fine, 1+1+1 will work fine. On most desktop chipsets, youll only get 2gb running in dual channel with a 3gb combination, and according to others on this forum, dual channel isnt all its cracked up to be anyway.
Just put 4 gig's in and the OS well use what ever is left in the memory controller. Then again depending on how it uses the memory though you might get better performance out of 2 gigs. Go with 4 x 512 low timing RAM.

You are correct, you were informed, however you are informed with the wrong information, which means your misinformed, and in fact incorrect about your choices. If that wasnt enough for you, Darqhelmet confirmed it with his own setup.

YAYYYYY!

dual channel is only minimally improving in real world usage...so it doesn't matter

donkey I like how your always for less performance..Don't get an ultra get a half priced GT, don't do dual channel do single its less performing...

I shall pass on your advice, i 'm looking for performance, not a cheap budget hak together pc.
