New T61 problem

Just got my new T61 with 15.4 screen and FX570 card. First thing I noticed after turning it on was two 1/4-inch wide vertical light-bleed lines running along the right side of screen. One is about an inch from screen edge and the other is about 4 inches from screen edge. Called support and they said LCD is shot and needs replacing. They are sending me a box to send the machine back. Anybody else experienced this problem?

Also, screen distorts when I press on lid. I thought thinkpads were immune to this due to reinforced roll cage. What's the deal?

Other than that, seems like a nice machine, runs really cool.

Called Lenovo and they said to send laptop to service center to replace the screen. Service center kept it a week trying to "replicate the problem", and finally said they could not see anything wrong. They refused to replace the screen and sent it back to me. Called Lenovo again and they said they could not understand why service center would not replace the screen, but they could not make them do it. They said I could send it back to the service center and give it another try (sounds ridiculous to me and I refused to do it). Now it looks like I will have to return the laptop for a refund and order a new one. This situtation has me wanting to go back to a Dell.

write them a letter with ur intention. u might also want to take pictures of ur screen issues. i would request to understand what steps the support centre took to "replicate the problem". understanding that intermittent issues can be hard to diagnose, but for obvious issues, they should see it.

sounded like the chinsese management (lenovo) is having issues with american support centre (ibm support left over somewhere in usa)

support is bad and good everywhere - dell, hp, toshiba .... all having issues - support personal experience is a mix of 50% luck and 50% good contact partner on the other side

best of luck in resolving ur problem

Called Lenovo return department today. They kept insisting that tech support could solve the problem and kept transferring me to tech support department. Tech support kept asking me to reformat the hard drive on the off-chance it would fix the problem (not). Finally, I got a supervisor at tech support who said I needed to insist that the return department authorize a return and ask to speak with their supervisor if they wouldn't do it. After 2 hours on the phone, finally the return department authorized a return. This only happened after I told the tech support supervisor that I was deploying to Afghanistan and really needed this problem resolved ASAP. I find it very disturbing that Lenovo has such conflict between their departments. I also find it disturbing that I had to fight tooth and nail to get a return authorization and it was only given after I played the military trump card. To make a long story short, Thinkpad is going back and I am ordering a Dell Vostro. I have owned several of their computers and I never got this kind of a run around with them.

I really have to admit that if there is one thing that is completely turning me off right now when it comes to the T61, its horror stories like this. I mean, how can they send you a laptop that's broken or defective right out of the gate? I know things can get broken or cracked during shipping, but the horror stories on any Lenovo forum versus other forums (and I've been to quite a few of the others) are astounding. I have read post after post about customers receiving broken Lenovo laptops and the customer services'/technical supports' refusal to rectify the situation. So many people have reported giving the computers back for refunds and, a few unlucky people, have been waiting for months for the refund check. These kinds of stories are not uncommon if one does some digging, so I'm a little "gun shy" right now about placing my order. I mean, I know there's always a chance that one could receive a broken or defective problem, but the stories appear to be too prevalent at this point for my liking. I don't know what I'm going to decide to do.
