Hey everyone! i have an A8J with a Geforce 7700, i upgraded my A8J that had the 7600 128mb to the much much faster 512mb 7700.

Now i recently came upon a new A8:

that has the Geforce 8400, im guessing that it might not be as fast as the 7700 with DirectX 9 games but later on when more and more becomes DX10 will this card be worth upgrading to? ASUStek ordering site isnt that expensive for 3dcards, the 7700 goes for $150!!

so does anyone know for one if the 8400 (hopefully soon 8600) for the A8 will fit the older A8's w/ the nVidia 7600,7700?

Also just for shits & giggles i'm wondering do the A8's with the ATI 3dcards have the same slot as the nvidia cards? or are they different connections for the ATi variant?

I really hope that one, the upgrade will be possible and two, that Asus makes an 8600 card for the A8 because the 8400 isnt that powerful and honestly even with DX10 games it might not be worth the upgrade.

I'm not sure if it will fit, but what I can say is that the 8400GS at stock settings is about 2/3 the power of the 7700 at stock speeds. The 8400GS is highly overclockable. My 8400GS i got to reach 3dmark05 scores of 4700, while stock was 2900. The 8400GS however does not have that much memory, unlike the 7700 512MB. I would be surprised if an 8 series card worked in a notebook that origionally came with a 7 series card.

I would say just keep your 7700 and play the latest games in DX9 instead.

yeah, for now maybe i'll see if an 8400 willfit a year down the road IF i still have this lappy. I do like my A8J! Whats this i hear about the T7250 and T7300 where did these come from? and why? it seems like theyre just small power increases over the old T7200. I love my T7200 it seems like the T7250 and t7300 run at 800mhz while the T7200 runs at 667mhz but the T7250 has 2Mb of L2 cache compared to the T7200 and newer T7300 w/ 4mb of L2. Ive seen some comparisons with the T7250 putting out as much power as the T7200.

also just thought i'd mention this i like the Sony models... theyre tight. pound for processing pound theyre overpriced but they have a lot of nice features a friend of mine just... "aquired" a Sony VGN-SZ110, this kid is a POS but he paid me $150 to reinstall Xp and download new drivers so i did. Anyways this thing has two graphics cards inside of it, an intel 945GM built in for battery use and a Geforce 7400 for 3d gaming, switchable via a physical switch above the keyboard, pretty cool.

the laptop is a nice build the palm rest is a chrome solid peice. the laptop feels solid EXCEPT for the lcd, it seems very easy to break and when you put pressure on the lcd bezel it leaves a long lasting pressure mark on the lcd, if you touch the lcd it leaves a long lasting pressure mark. seems very fragile
