Sort of off topic but still pertains to a Mac. My camcorder is almost 5 years old and was a great camera but the weather where I live (desert) has put it on its last legs.
So I have been doing research on what I want in a new camcorder and something that is going to be compatible with my MBP and software. I searched for the new HD stuff that was confirmed working on a Mac without any conversion and found a couple options. Now I am not looking for a total professional quality camera but I would like something decent. I finally came across the Canon HV-10.
Anyone familiar with the camera? I recently got to see one in a store and I liked the feel of it and the built-in light was more powerful than I thought. Not sure if I want to go HD or not but I might as well. The biggest concern I was running across is that some brands (Panasonic/Sony) have a special HD format that may need to be converted to a more standard format before iMovie or FinalCut would open them. From what I read about Canon and the HDV format does not require this as it is the same plug-n-play setup with iMovie/Finalcut.
I do a lot of quick shooting for projects and clubs and as little downtime as possible would be awesome. iMovie is great for pumping out a quick video for people to share and I just want to make sure the standard I invest into is compatible.
And as a personal vendetta I would prefer never to buy from Sony ever again. So Panasonic and Canon it was.
