hey guys. its been a while since i posted here. Well since then i didnt really have much trouble with the laptop until now. all my problems were vista related. now here wut happens.

My laptop always runs on 79-82c. when i first bought it, i could put it on my lap while surfing the web. but now it gets too hot after a min or two.

Another thing is it turns off by itself while im surfing and i dont understand why. even when its on the table with cold room temperature :S ..

last thing i noticed. since i took my wifi card out because its not functioning well. yesterday i tried putting it back in and i noticed that it gets really hot in a min or 2.

i have a feeling that my fans arnt working properly. is there a way to know if they are?

thanks and sorry for the long post..

Have you cleaned out the fans with compressed air? No matter how cool the room is, fan blades caked in dust aren't going to cool the system adequately. Notice how much smaller laptop fans are compared to desktop fans. You might even want to pop the cover off the video cards and spray some air straight into the fans. And your laptop shouldn't be running near 80 C. That's close to fatal temperature for PC parts...

thanks for your reply.. i did clean it with compressed air. i just turned it on and the temp is on 66c. and it keeps getting higher. i tried turning it on before i put back the cover and it ran on 45c. is there a way to check if the fans are working?

I don't think there is an onboard fan monitoring program. I'd say you could just listen to them, but maybe my 7700 fans are just a lot louder than the ones in the 9700.

A couple programs exist for fan/temperature monitoring. SpeedFan is one of them. Also, there is a program called notebook hardware control that I found here on the forum. It was a modded version for the 7700 motherboard, but I don't know if there is a 9700 version or not. It enabled me to view my temps, but not change fan speed (wasn't supported on the 7700).

you might want to redo the artic silver that is under your processor over time this protector will dry out and cause your temps to go way up and shut down... Hammerhead is an expert at this issue with the m9700 and could give you more advice but if you cleaned the fans and it still is climbing with temps then i would try that...

AW installs thermal pads that don't wear out in a matter of months. If you haven't AS5'ed the processor (and don't know where it is), then its probably best you don't touch it. Something other than your cooling pad/thermal paste is wrong here....
