I'm doing some research on Alienware and how they do business, and I wanted to check to see if any of you guys knew the answers to the following questions. (I posted this question on the Area-51m forum, too, but wanted to have access to those of you techies who don't patrol those forums)
1. Where does AW get their Area-51m custom lid tooled and manufactured? Do they use a contract manufacturer in Taiwan, or do they do it locally?
2. Where do they get their lids painted?
3. Do they bulk order their units from Uniwill directly? Then is it a process of taking them apart, painting the chassis, adding their own components, and reassembling them in Miami?
4. I noticed they use a higher res LCD than Uniwill offers on the base unit. Do they order these LCD separately and replace the ones that come with the base unit?
5. How much of a profit margin do they have on their Area-51m's?
6. Alienware pulled in $100M in revenue last year...what percentage of the custom gaming computer market is that?
I thought I'd throw these out in case any of you guys have the answers, since AW product development probably wouldn't tell me directly.
Thanks in advance!
