Ozzie's 17" MBP along with a 24" Westinghouse LCD.

well, after trying to find the perfect setup (meaning a very good laptop and a decently priced LCD monitor) I think I have finally found a great combo. this is my 17" MBP hooked up to my 24" Westinghouse LCD which I love. I was able to get the 24" Westy for $365 from Best Buy a couple of weeks ago when it was on sale and I have a 12% off coupon to boot. the LCD looks great and games like HL2 run perfectly w/o any ghosting issues.

How come you're mirroring the image instead of spanning?

because I like to use the 24" as the main LCD and I haven't been able to figure out how I can shut off the laptop's display.

If you have a mouse and keyboard connected to the laptop as well as the monitor you can shut the lid. It'll go to sleep but tapping the keyboard or mouse will wake it.

It looks like yours are wireless...they should work too. Just make sure "allow bluetooth devices to wake this machine" is checked in either the BT prefs or Mouse and Keyboard...can't remember which one.

You can also, in the Displays preferences, make the external monitor the main monitor and the MBP monitor a secondary one for mirroring, instead of the other way around.

...by dragging the menu bar from the given screen to the other one.

Is that an addendum to my information or is that separate information saying you can just click and drag the menu bar to the second monitor any time you want?

In the display preferences, as your quote indicated. When I first installed the spanning hack on my iBook I got to the display preferences and was thinking "OK, now what? How do I make my external one the master?" Once you know how to do it, it makes sense, but initially it just looks like you can only drag the external windows around the master.

Okay...for a minute I thought you could take the actual menu bar and drag it. That would be cool.

24" coolness

Great setup.
I've got my MBP 15.4" with 24" gateway.
I love the 24" LCD.
It makes so much different with 1920x1200 resolution.

my arm gets some exercise going from my laptop screen to the 24" screen.
:-)
