I don't think the 5500(766) had sensors in the motherboard for the cpu. It'll show 75 no matter what...

With this model, the gpu is a "module", not a regular video card, so if yours is going bad you'll have to find a used one on eBay. They haven't made the modules for years.

It's likely your video module is overheating, and I'm not sure you can take it apart and apply AS5 or not.

The video modules were ATI MR 9600/9700, or geForce go 5600/5700. That is all that will work in the 766.

hi guys thanks for the insight and the help that you have given over the last few days or even a week but what i need to know is can i turn off the warning in bios so my laptop wont keep shutting down? I have used the artic silver5 on my cpu but it is still kicking over at 75c so i was thinking that it could be a sensor?I wanted to get you insght in to the equasion so not to do something wrong and end up making it worse.
By the way the laptop board has come at last so will let you all know how i get on.
Again just like to say thanks again and you guys rock.

Glad we could help. I don't know much about the 766, but HammerHead had one and he'd be able to say if you could turn off that warning...
