Fusion vs. Parallels

Thread Starter
I've been looking into virtual machines with the release of Leopard and its native support for Boot Camp. From what I've read, the only decent products for running Windows virtual machines on a Mac are vmware's Fusion and SWsoft's Parallels. Has anyone used both products? And if so, which would you suggest?

They both work, and work decently. In general Fusion has a leg up in my opinion though, but I also have a bias against parallels and their treatment of the Linux platform as well.

I have used both Parallels and Fusion and I prefer Fusion. Parallels kept crashing on me during the XP install. I used the same disk and method with Fusion and it went through perfect.

I also noticed that if you use a bootcamp partition and want to use Fusion to use it, you hve to reactivate Windows going back and forth. Very annoying feature of the Windows Genuine Advantage. But for the most part I have been very pleased with Fusion and I use it every day for school applications.

When I installed Fusion recently this was specifically addressed in the documentation actually. If I remember right you have to reinstall the VMWare tools in Windows, but after that you are fine. Actually to be honest I didn't have a problem at all myself Seablade

When I get Leopard I am going to wipe all my stuff and reinstall. Mainly to get the latest editons of the software I use. I will look into this when I do so. Thanks for the tip!

I normally use Windows via Fusion when I am working and I only boot into Windows when I want to play a game. It would be nice be be able to use the partition via Fusion for most of the work and boot into the partition for games without needing to reactivate. But I see I missed an install step when I got fusion.

Can anyone comment specifically on performance of office 2007 applications, especially outlook, on parallels vs. fusion?

How about the same question for: ACDSEE Pro 2, Proshow Gold, WinSCP

For those last three, how about a suggestion for a comparable native mac product?

Once I upgraded my system to 2GB or RAM Fusion, Windows XP and Office 2007 run fine. On 1GB of RAM it got little choppy but still very usable.
