You would think... But most of that time was everyone working one their own seperate part. Then once everything goes togather...bang! A whole new bag of bugs. Then Windows Vista...and bad video card drivers...and DX-10...and DX-10.1...etc, etc...all of which happened in the last year. I guess I can see where the problems are coming from, thats why I never buy something as soon as its available. If I get it for free, hey there's a reason its free and given time it'll get better if its new tech.

I can see why the problems are present partially, but they should've assumed this would happen, they are pretty experienced programmers
post #83 of 262
hehe I've been playing with tweaking the difficulty config files.

Yes it can. I am a programmer myself. Eliminating bloat and optimizing code is pretty easy. It really is. What's not easy is coordinating the efforts of many people. Things are BOUND to get messed up, there are BOUND to be pieces of redundant code.

In a game as massive and complex as Crysis is, these issues increase exponentially.

i'll stick to quake wars. it doesn't look much worse in my eyes,
but it's more fun and performs great. additionally the developers
add a great support, even AFTER people already bought it.
the only thing, that really is superior in crysis are the animations,
faces & overall look of the humans.

Oh well, it'll provide a game to play when I there's a lull in the released games. For a while though I probably won't be playing

It is funny. DirectX really was supposed to be an easy way to fix all of this. It was supposed to be a simple matter of of plugging your design into Dx. The API's were already there. That way it did not matter which video card or audio card or processor or any other kind of component you had. Nor did it matter how many people were working on a project cause they all had to make the same API calls.

I think Microsoft is partially to blame. Their descriptions of their own APIs are difficult to follow sometime. This makes it difficult for video card makers as well as game programmers. And they leave a lot of options open that force game programmers to rely on the card makers to provide them with an additional set of API's to work with. (i.e. "Nvidia, the way it's meant to be played" would not exist if everything was strictly using the DX10 or DX9 APIs). And this is because DirectX is underpowered.

Crysis in Vista IS better than Crysis in XP however. And that does show that DX10 has made "some" leaps. Now if programmers will tighten up considerably, we should have some nice products in the next few years.

Hmmm My performance in Vista was lower than in XP with the same settings, same res, same drivers (169.01). Not too much lower, but still lower. And personally after runing Crysis on Ultra High (DX10 mode) I was unimpressed with the additional graphics. They were minimal at best& I would not recommend Upgrading to Vista just for DX10 to anyone.

Jon, just out of curiosity, where are you getting the info on DX10 performing better?
I am running a dual boot on my XPS 410 using Forceware 163.169 drivers on each side. I am getting about 2-3 fps better under Vista than XP. Same settings. However I did not slipstream my SATA drivers into XP and have to change BIOS settings to go back forth. It could be that my XP boot is not totally up to par.

your 410 is running a 7 series card, it's not DX10 capable. And if you are intereseted I did find a way to enable AHCI in XP w/o slipstreaming to take advantage of NCQ, which I am assuming is what you are looking for.

game wont run right for me, i had the same problem with the new splinter cell. looks like my screen is split in half. one side runs good, the other is messed up. pretty sure its a driver issue though. i'll just wait and play it on my 360

Cripples myM1710 T 2500 & 7900 GTX don't think im gona buy it until I get a new rig and not gona buy a new rig just so I can play crysis.

I do find the graphics awsome but cmon they barely have rigs out there to be able to play the frigging game on high resolutions and high settings. Smart move EA now you built a game so demanding and such a resource hog that only a handfull of gamers with the best hardware out will be able to play at decent levels.
I'm not sure who's calling it truly ground breaking being that most people here are saying how bad it is
post #96 of 262
Crysis on your dell indeed (bad pun)
ground breaking yes, in the sense of hardware demands..
however, i really can't see the game being THAT better looking
than cod4 or bioshock or ut3 that i would excuse that enormous demands.
probably sponsored by nvidia a lot, as there are few games out there that
really make the buy of a 8800 ultra or similar necessary. that's actually the
first one (maybe also dirt, but noone would buy a new pc for this).
so you guys with the 7950gtx cards have problems, too? that's sad..
and what about the 8600 gts and the sli 8700? anyone with these tried to play it?
