I am sure someone else will be posting/bragging about their performance before me.

Oh wow...the wait is gonna be a killer! I hope you've got someone that will test it out first so you won't have to worry about coming home to an expensive paperweight.

Keep your head down over there...that computer's going to be worthless without a user.

Nice build. I think their advertising has something to be desired, though. The level of misrepresentation regarding SLi memory is so widespread these days. (the 1G they put in the specs). Yes, it is 1GB of RAM, unfortunately each card has 512MB, which is not combined, it is mirrored- which means you still only have 512MB usable RAM.

That aside it looks like a very powerful machine! We look forward to benches once you get it.

It has to be mirrored, or else one card would have to fetch textures from the other at sub-GDDR3 speeds.

True, but if it is only marginally better, I would hope the price difference is also just marginally higher.

This is a independent review of a Clevo 8800M. Can't wait to get some stats on the 1730 with it!

Thanks for mentioning the company I had no idea they existed.

They use the Clevo 901C for their laptop:
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo.asp?productid=19

Pc Micro is offering a free upgrade to SLI 8800's if you order early. They are supposed to ship mid Dec. They are also offering $200 instant rebate through today.

I went with a slightly different config because I could only afford around 3,000.

Intel® Core™2 Duo E6850 (3.0GHz/1333MHz/4MB) - because quad core's are expensive and no games are using them yet.

2048MB Ultra Speed DDR2 800MHz Extreme Performance Memory - because 2gb vs 4gb difference (if any) is not worth 300 in my opinion.

200GB @ 7,200 SATA300 High Speed Storage (1x 200GB 7200RPM) - because I already have one of these drives and PC Micro says the machine comes with RAID chip on the mobo regardless if you buy the option. They charge 226 for a new one and you can get them for 175-200 on ebay.

Standard 1 year warranty and no operating system.

3424 - 200 promotion = 3224 shipped

just read this

Nvidia's 8800M GTX mobile chip runs Crysis, shocka

The new 8800M GTX, on the other hand, is actually a rather good bit of kit, it seems. The number of stream processors is now at 96, up 3x from the previous top of the range kit - the 8600 M - which had 32. The memory interface is now 256-bit, which also accounts for a massive increase in frame rates in the latest games

I have no idea but since they are purchasing from Clevo I would think in the end Clevo will be supporting us. I know Clevo is a good company so I am willing to risk it. I am a Dell man for sure but the 1730 is butt ugly.

Gratz on the system ND6. I hope you enjoy it for a long time.

Here's a lappy with the new GTX. It appears to be almost as fast as a desktop 8800GT (eg. I get 35FPS at that res with 2xAA, all high):

I checked them out on RESELLERRATINGS.COM. The reviews talked of excellent warranty support.

Don't want to start a new thread for this. I just built an 8800GTX SLI / 200GB RAID 0 / Intel X6800 for under $4K at PCMicroWorks.com. I know the 8800GTX's aren't expected out for a bit, but what is the catch?

Thanks for that bit if info. I'll still likely wait till there are some new owners with hands on feedback though. STill nice to know that the company has good warranty service.

Not sure what you are referring to. I think that PC MicroWorks wanted to be the first out to offer the 8800's. That is why they are selling pre-orders for them before Sager, Dell and Alienware.

Systems configured with SLI dual 8800's will not ship until mid to late December.

Just wondering how it's possible to get a lappy with the newest and most bad ass mobile GPU's/RAID/Quad Core for that nice of a price. I really want one.
