8800M GTX November 19th??? - Page 2

Considering the 8800GT's success with a 65nm G92(great performance, relatively inexpensive, and low power consumption), it seems possible for a mobile 8800 series, even with SLI. The 8800GT is slimmer than a 8800GTS/GTX too and it's heat production is roughly a little higher than a 8600GTS's. So if that could translate to the mobile series, it'd be surreal.

Here is an article on the GTS which wraithrsw was talking about

Still two 8800m in SLI won´t "RIP" everything apart, apparently since two 8800GTX in SLI doesn´t rip Crysis apart performance wise. Hopefully the demo was just unoptimized and the retail will be mor optimized after a few patches and new drivers.

Really, my desktop rig plays it just fine, even in Vista w/Ultra settings/4XAA. Keep in mind though that SLi is not supported in the demo, nor are QC procs.

I must agree, that the 8800GT is a great indicator that laptop cards are definitely possible.

The upgrade is on it's way but knowing dell as always it will only be available as A upgrade when ordering a new 1730 and will take a few months to even become available is spare parts.

Sad but true just going by Dells past and I have owned all of Dells XPS laptops up until current 1710 and have always had to frigging wait as they only offer the latest and greatest GPU as a optional upgrade when ordering a new machine for a good bit of time then when Dell is good and ready they will have them available in spare parts. GRRRRRRRR that burns me up!

AFAIK spare parts are always refurbs, so there's a reason they have to be on the market for a while before you can order them....

Tried on Xp with my desktop and i can get steady frames at over 35-50 fps. at 1600X1024 with all setting to high.

If the 1730 has this card I will be Onboard with a new Dell Lappie.

thanks everyone

for the great video card discussions on this and related threads recently

I decided to go for an M90 with a quadro FX 3500, and plan to keep it for a couple of years, and also build a desktop with an 8800gt (maybe sli) this winter

thanks for the help, cheers!!

Hey ZX81 I love my M90. And the best part is you can use around the office.

I am sure you will be happy with yours. I hope they produced an enterprise solutin of the new card when it comes out. Might not be SLI but it will surely get the job done.

Andtech gave the desktop 512MB 8800GT a glowing review. Review can be seen here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=1

It performs identically to a $600 768MB 8800GTX while being priced at $250 and the 50-100 watts of power savings running idle/at load compared to a 8800GTX is also encouraging and makes it much more likely the 8800GT can be adapted into a mobile chasis.

The 8800GT according to those bench marks is 3-4X faster at higher resolutions than a 7950GT...

If the Nvidia Go 8800GTX is merely a slightly lower clocked version of the desktop 8800GT and Dell keeps on using SLI the M1730 with the 8800GTX SLI should be a screamer and be the true (abet expensive) successor to the M1710 7950GTX we have all been promised instead of the chubbier and more bling bling sibling of the M1710 the 8700GT SLI M1730 is now.

Tee only thing that hurts the 8800GT is the 512MB of RAM. At higher resolutions you cannot use AA/AF w/o a serious performance hit. So as long as you don't care for AA/AF it is a great card.

their releasing another (relatively cheap) one, more shaders, supposed to beat gtx, an 8800gts G92, more ram options

Well yeah that and the 256bit memory bus. Normal GTX's have a 384bit one, so nvidia will really have to ramp up the memory speed (frequency) if they want to call it a GTX.
Having said that, half a gigabyte of graphics memory is still a hell of a lot.

will the 8800 fit in my 1710 ?
