m9750 cpu upgradeable?

hello

I have an alienware m9750 and what a machine.
Im pretty happy with it, but I was wondering if the CPU is user upgradeable.

I got it with a 2ghz t7200 core 2 duo cpu and saw that on NewEgg the 2.4ghz T7700 is at 334 dlls. ( link )

Can it be upgraded? or the chip is soldered? or the fact that the T7700 is 800mhz wont allow me to use it.

It can be upgraded but by Alienware. If you do it yourself it'd die and you'd void the warranty.

yeah, you have to send it in to Alienware for them to upgrade it. But, you would also have to pay for the parts and labor. Which costs a fortune. But, it's a lot safer to let them do it because if something goes wrong they would be held accountable.
It would also void the warranty if you took out your CPU.

the t7700 is not compatible with your laptop as it uses a different socket and has a different fsb so it simply won't work. you want to look at the even model numbers (like T7600) as they are the 667mhz fsb that are compatible.

if you are capable of installing a gpu module then the cpu is just as easy to swap out. if you never attempted to do this before then i would not try it on your laptop.

different socket!? damn...

Dont know why the T7600 (which is slower) is more expensive.

I work on a tech support shop so replacing CPUs isnt a problem unless they are soldered.

it's more expensive because it is the fastest cpu available for the alienware's m9750 chipset (and any other mobo based on the same chipset) so they make their money that way.

If you're under warranty, AW will upgrade your cpu for their vendor cost of the part, which is about 10% less than their retail price, and shipping one way. Labor, and run in are free of charge, as is the return shipping.

AW doesn't allow customer cpu upgrades due to lots of warranty claims by people that broke their motherboards trying to do that themselves.

Having AW do the upgrade will be more expensive than doing it yourself, but not by much. It's worth it if you've got an extended warranty.

On my old 9700 they screwed up and sent me the wrong cpu in the computer so I called and bitched then they sent me the correct one and the guy said it was ok for me to install it myself without voiding the warrenty.

That was a special case.

Don't upgrade your cpu without notifying AW first if you want your warranty to be valid.

Also when you do upgrade any parts, make sure you ask them about the discount.

So the T7600 M will work if I want to update myself?
