I have messed around in the bios to no avail. Does anyone have a solution for this? I suppose I could modify an XP disc to contain the drivers. but where would I start to find the drivers I need and where on the disc would I put them? thx in advance

Hi there, The fact that the XP installation cannot see a HD drive in your system, is because the A7SV laptop has a so called 'serial ATA' harddisk inside. The drive-controller for this SATA hardisk is NOT recognised automatcallly by XP. It needs a driver to be recognized (as with all 'foreign' harware) Put this diver on a floppy (see detailed comment at the end of this message), and when the XP installation starts up, you will see a message at the bottoim of the XP installationscreen that says: PRESS F6 to load a non-Microsoft driver bla bla. Press F6 quickly (BEFORE this line disappears) Later on in the installation, the XP installion program will ask you to put a floppy in the drive that contains this special Serial ATA driver. Now, the point is: WHICH driver you need (and better: WHERE to get it). Well, I don;t know, but I'll give you some hints: you have to look in your WINDOWS Vista installation, and look at the drivers settings. It will say which HD controller is used. Go the the controllers manufacturers site and get the driver. Rgds Robbert Soesterberg The Netherlands
