A7SV-A1 No XP? :(

Ok So I have just purchased an A7SV-A1 off newegg and I am very pleased with it. The only problem I am having is that when I goto install windows XP via the boot from CD method it gets to the press enter to run setup then promptly tells me there is no detected hard discs. I have messed around in the bios to no avail.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I suppose I could modify an XP disc to contain the drivers. but where would I start to find the drivers I need and where on the disc would I put them?

thx in advance

I emailed asus tech support still waiting on a reply. drivers site offers no insight on it either though they have XP based drivers on there.

Does it have a Vista recovery partition? Maybe you have to delete that first before installing XP.

Hi there, The fact that the XP installation cannot see a HD drive in your system, is because the A7SV laptop has a so called 'serial ATA' harddisk inside. The drive-controller for this SATA hardisk is NOT recognised automatcallly by XP. It needs a driver to be recognized (as with all 'foreign' harware) Put this diver on a floppy (see detailed comment at the end of this message), and when the XP installation starts up, you will see a message at the bottoim of the XP installationscreen that says: PRESS F6 to load a non-Microsoft driver bla bla. Press F6 quickly (BEFORE this line disappears) Later on in the installation, the XP installion program will ask you to put a floppy in the drive that contains this special Serial ATA driver. Now, the point is: WHICH driver you need (and better: WHERE to get it). Well, I don;t know, but I'll give you some hints: you have to look in your WINDOWS Vista installation, and look at the drivers settings. It will say which HD controller is used. Go the the controllers manufacturers site and get the driver. Rgds Robbert Soesterberg The Netherlands

THANKS!! Did you test it on your own system? I had downloaded some other SATA drivers but they all didn't work. Really bad that a great company like ASUS doesn't let us run XP on it. (Maybe thei're forced to act like this because Bill Gates is pushing Vista thru our throats.....) Thanks for your super links and advice!! Greatly appreciated!! Rgds Robb

Do you know what that driver is for?? I Googled for it but cannot find anything...... Form the name I would say that is has to do with the IR (InfraRed) interface. Are they drivers from ASUS?? I ask this because ASUS s-t-i-l-l doesn't offer XP drivers fro this machine, only Vista (while the headers say: drivers for Vista / XP (see: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...-us&model=A7Sv)
