Change HDD for V505DX

I have been using sony vaio v505dx since 2004. I really liked this laptop, which is quiet and portable. But recently the hard drive is out of order, so I can't even finish formmting because of some problems.

I want to put a new hard drive to this laptop. Initially it has Toshiba MK6021GAS hard drive (60GB, 4200rpm). But I'm not sure if I can change it as the same one or even different one (e.g. 80GB) for this laptop. Does anyone have some ideas about this?

My son has one of these and a little over a year ago we had to replace the HD. We used a Seagate ST980815A: 80 GB, 5400RPM, ATA100 & it works great & Seagate has a 5 yr warrenty on their drives. It was $75 from Newegg.com.
