Just got my ASUS S37S

Thread Starter
Bought it from ISTNC. It was on back order for near two months because of the delayed shipment of the machine from ASUS.

It is a very nice machine.

My specs:
T7500 2.2GHz
1x2GB DDR2-5300
80GB 7200RPM Hitachi
DVDRW
4965 AGN wireless card

I think everything else is standard (GF8400go 256MB, 6cell battery, built in webcam, built in finger print reader).

It gets pretty hot even when idle. The fan is ridiclously silent.

Driver install was pretty easy. For those installing drivers, the unknown devices are the picture card reader, and the base system devices are related to the fingerprint reader.

The finger print reader requires the software install on the CD.

The webcam makes noise when initializing.

The touchpad buttons pick up finger prints pretty easily.

The lid is awesome. There is no button to push to open it. It seems to close through the use of a magnet? No clue. There is no button or lock device.

Havent tested the battery life but the battery sticks out a bit in laterally, away from your stomach (as opposed to towards your legs) if you were to hold the laptop while sitting down.

The screen is bright. Its brighter than my Samsung 213T desktop LCD, but not as bright as the ultrabright HP dv9500 screen.

In the box was:
S37S laptop
6cell battery
90W AC adapter (19V x 4.74A)
1 cloth for screen wipe
1 Driver cd
1 manuals cd
1 nero cd
1 ASUS DVD, MediaShow, PowerDirector cd

ISTNC gave me a little gift with the laptop which was not ASUS branded. So that was nice.

Any questions please ask.

Im running Vista Home Premium on it with no problems.

Vista Performance scores:
5.1 CPU (T7500)
4.7 RAM (1x2GB DDR667)
3.0 GFX Aero (GF8400go 256MB)
4.0 GFX Gaming (GF8400go 256MB)
5.2 HD (80GB 7200RPM Hitachi)

Thread resurrection time! I'm interested in one of these myself. Any further notes on the machine? The heat thing is a bit of a worry but I plan to stick a Penryn in mine. How is the battery life?

9Cell battery is not available anywhere (white color ones) So i cant test the battery life. As for Penryn, you need to flash to a newer bios to get it work.

My S37S specs
T8300 6M CACHE Special Edition....
4GB MEMORY
256MB 8400 GRAPHICS
DVDRW
160GB 7200RPM DRIVE
BT
WINDOWS XP

as for OS SUPPORT.
XP 32 - Install OK
VISTA 32 - Install OK
VISTA 64 - EXCEPT FINGER READER will not install.
XP 64 - Doesnt work for most of the driver.

Thanks for that. I want to install a T9500 but I have a spare 1.5GHz dual core from my Dell M1330 I can put inside to flash the BIOS.

How are the temps?
My Temp is somewhere around 67-69 idle, almost 73-75 folding processing.

Hi, what BIOS revision works with Penryn? Where did you get it from? I can't see any indication that the new CPUs are compatible.
