600ygr Clock Problems

Thread Starter
A buddy of mine recently gave me a 600ygr. The laptop works great except for one thing. The clock and date get stuck. Basically, when I turn off the laptop the clock and date don't move, I turn it back on and it's right where I left it. I would think that it's the CMOS battery except wouldn't it be resetting back to 12:00? Any ideas would be appreciated. I've already tried upgrading the BIOS to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.

The seconds do not advance when I'm in the BIOS. I also should mention that while in windows (once the clock is set properly) it does advance correctly. I have upgraded the BIOS to the most recent ver, reset the BIOS settings to default and even done the hard reset button on the bottom of the laptop. None of these things have yielded any results. I was going to try and replace the battery (even though I don't think that is the problem) but I can't find the thing. I even pulled up the keyboard and don't see it anywhere.

But doesn't it sound like something else is going on if the clock doesn't get reset to 1200?

Also, the battery that mundocorpo lists is different... http://www.mundocorp.com/600ygr.html

I'll pull the battery and test it with a multimeter. I didn't do so last time I had the thing apart because once I get the keyboard off, I can't find anything else to take apart. Do you know of anywhere that has disassembly instructions for this laptop?

eserviceinfo.com is a great place to browse for service manual. if u do not find ur model there, look into something close to it

Dear Dave, I am havving the same problem on my Fujitsu Lifebook T4210 running Vista Business and Bios updated to latest 1.16. Have you solve it and how? Thanks, Henry Malayia

Nope, nothing I tried ever fixed the problem. I even called gateway's tech support and the only thing they suggested was replacing the BIOS battery. I did finally find the battery but as I suspected it wasn't dead (obviously, all my BIOS settings stayed put). I am simply dealing with the issue by using winbar which syncs the clock automatically, every time I turn the laptop on. winbar does work with vista though the volume functionality doesn't work.

Thanks, Dave.

But I don't think that is a solution for me because I am not always connected to internet when I start my tablet and the Time & Date Stamp will affects my documents, emails and even recovery point etc. So meanwhile I still enter Bios Setup during system boot to update it.

I not yet try replace bios battery because looking for service manual,I agreed with you that should not be this problem but must have a try.

On another hand I may try backward flash bios to a previous version or reinstall Vista Business or even try install MS Tablet 2005. But don't think is OS issue.

Anyway thanks again for your information and I will update mine as soon as possible.

hi, I have solved my CMOS battery/ System Clock problem.

My T4210 CMOS reset automatically last 2 days and I need to setup manually, at the same time I flash my Bios agsin. Then I discovered that the clock is alive again.

I am working on a 600ygr now. Can you tell me how you got to the bios bettery?

If you are lucky the CMOS battery can be accessible when you remove the keyboard. If not you might have to take the bottom case and the upper case off to get to it.

Be careful when removing the battery as not to break the hold down mechanism.

There is a sticky at the top " A few gateway service guides" and contains a 600 series.

I think you will have to remove quite a bit more than just the bottom plate
