Help...major issue with 7900 gs

Alright, so I have a 7900gs single pipe and I have had it overclocked for some time (probably a year or a little less) using joker's rom cd. I had it at a medium or so overclock however ...I think 430/600 or something like that so I wasnt really pushing the card too hard. Anyway, I was reading a page on the internet today and started noticing some artifacts and the screen would go blank and then come back on. I immediately turned it off and rebooted normally. I noticed even on all the boot screens it has artifacts and in DOS mode, you can barely read anything because random letters and stuff are everywhere. It will not boot normally but can still boot in safe mode and in VGA mode. I've tried putting it back at stock clocks, reinstalling the drivers, bios, chipset, basically everything but windows itself seeing as it shows artifacts even out of windows. When I try to run ATItool it says there is no video device detected but my device manager shows the 7900 gs running normally. Unfortunately... I have the feeling my card is fried...what do you guys think?? Any input is appreciated, thanks guys.

sounds like your card is pooched.

memory is fried most likely.

Yeah, I'd agree. It sounds as though your card died.

your card is gone, time to get a replacement, and if you do get from Ebay, make sure question them of the card working, alot of bad 7900GS been float on ebay lately

Dont get anything from eBay. You get what you pay for. Its full of scumbags (mostly) and they'll sell you anything.

Ok, so no ebay it seems.. that was where I was going to go but I would much rather trust someone on here because I have had a good experience in the past buying a CPU on here. I may put up a WTB thread in the for sale section because I'm definitely going to need a new card, I am already extremely annoyed by all these artifacts and slow scrolling and such. But thanks for the help guys, I figured it was a shot card but was hoping maybe it was something else.

I do not share Philljc feelings on Ebay.

I bought and sold many items, (over 1000) and only had problems with less than 10 transactions.

Key is to carefully check the sellers feedback and make sure your paypal payment is covered.

You may find one here in the for sale section, and you may want to go for the Dual Pipe 7900, or you can also put a FX-1500. (Same as 7900GS)

You also could go 7900GTX or 7950GTX, FX2500 which would work as well.

Last point, what temps was your GPU getting to ?

They would idle in the upper 60's to mid 70's ..and gaming (like half life 2) would go to mid 80's.. usually never above that.

Quick Question... is the FX2500 the same as the 7950gtx? Is it less clocked or is there anything different about it?
THE FX2500 = 7900GTX

the FX-3500 = 7950GTX

The Temps seem OK

I was able to find a FX2500 on craigslist for $140 bucks so.. I think my card frying is good and bad.. it will be a pretty decent upgrade from the 7900 gs i hope

Just make sure the seller offers a DOA return policy.

and yes the FX-2500 will be a nice upgrade.

When you add the Dual Heat Pipe card to your laptop there is some meatal that you have to break away on the left fan port. They put it there to block off the area as the single pipe did not need it.

There is a thread here with photos if you require, but it is a very easy mod to do, and it simply allows you to insert the second heat pipe in front of the CPU heat pipe.

Ok I just did the dell diagnostic thing (Fn + power) because I never even knew that existed buuut...it said that everything checked out but I know I have to have a gfx card problem... I'm still getting the artifacts ALL the time..safe mode is the only thing that works, etc..etc.. I just dont understand why the diagnostics would say everything is ok unless it's my monitor? but I really doubt that... ohh well
