WiFi

yeah yeah, I know, search...

Well I have, and confirmed what I was thinking happened when I tried to install an Atheros AR5BMB5 PCI WiFi card in my T30.

What I found was that like any other IBM product, they like you to use only thier products, go figure.

Anyway, in my search, there was a thread that cited a supposedly long thread on another site. "thinkpad.com", so I tried that URL and only found the IBM site, which wasn't a bad thing, I now have my OSD back, that I lost after installing the new HDD over the weekend.

So my question is, where is this thead that lists compatible WiFi cards?

I have a Belkin PCMCIA card installed currently and it works fine, it would just be a lot nicer to have everything built in.

Thanks

. Atheros AR5BMB5 as i have known, garantees to work only on some TOSHIBA model, sure it might work on other comps, but it is users risk/luck
. "where is this thead that lists compatible WiFi cards?" - best way is to look first what cards can be used on certain models, and then cross check them. Laptop manufacturers are not known to promote devices built within their comps

Well I found that I had to add an "s" to the end of thinkpad, to find the site that was cited in another thread.

So far I have found that there is an eeprom re-write fix that will or should allow me to use the WiFi card that I have, I've asked a couple questions about it before I attempt to use the iso, just to make sure.

I haven't found the specific thread that I was asking about though.

I have not yet been able to find a listing of compatible WiFi cards for my T30 though. I'm sure if I look more I will find something, I'm persuing this avenue of re-writing the EEPROM on the Atheros card, to hopefully allow me to use what I already have.

$free.99 or the cost of a disc to burn the .iso to, depending on how you look at it. I'll report back how/if it works.
