That seems to be quite a good deal to me.

Although, according to the site you got it from, you have a Pentium M 1.3 GHz, and not a Celeron M processor.

One question, you say you got a 6900 score in 3DMark2001SE, which is greater than what a Sony Vaio V505EX got, with a PM 1.5 GHz, and Mobility Radeon 9200 32 MB. So that leads me into thinking that a MR9000 is better than MR9200? Or is it because of the 64 vs. 32 MB of VRAM difference? I'm really confused, because I expected a 9200 to score better.

If anyone has an explanation for the above, please explain it to the puzzled me.

Yes the extra 32 mb are better. Also, the 9200, which is essentialy a slightly overclocked 9000, while in the v505ex is underclocked. Yep. Ask the guy who owns it here in the forums... i think his name is swayee, he checked using some app, and discovered that the 9200 in the v505ex is underclocked, thus loosing its potential better hand vs the 9000. Kinda sad no?

G551

I just got my G551 notebook today. Very excited. It looks marvelous. Wouldn't know much about the computer, as I'm not a genuis at computers. Got the 1.7 GHz centrino, 15.1", 1G DDR, 30G HDD, DVD/CDRW, the rest is standard to the system. In Australia, the G551 comes under the Excel brand. Anyways.. here are a few pics for those considering purchasing one and looking for more pics. I was quite frustrated when i was researching this notebook as I could not see many decent pictures of them anywhere. But I have since seen www.internetishop.com, and they do have some good pictures of them.

Haven't needed it,I have used my G551 everyday for a month and the only
problems I have had have been minor software proplems, which I can always resolve myself,I have built, worked on and used computers sence 1979 and
the most proplems nowadays are related to Microblows.

Internetishop advertises the G551 with Centrino Pentium Celeron 1.3 processor. I don't think this makes any sense. You can't call it Centrino unless you have the Pentium M processor, and if it is Celeron, then it can't be Centrino. Which one did you get?

mine is Celeron M 1.3 which is a pentium M with Half the cache diabled and max
clock of 1.4 and advanced speedstep is disabled(they come off Pentium M
production lines just the ones that don't test spec)as far as perforamance
I have a T40 with a 1.5 PM and I see no differance.I use my G551 everyday at
work(xl,word, autocad, valve sizing and plant simulations)and on the road like now
and I game some, its much better for games than the T40,3Dmark 2001se
6989(not bad for M9 )

Hey can you fellow G551 owners help me out? I also have a G551 barebone and my problem is that it runs my pc2700 ram at pc2100 speeds. I have tried testing each individual module of my 2 256mb pc2700 modules, both run at pc2100 in the laptop. One is a original samsung pc2700, other is spectek micron pc2700 from pny. I am getting 1980 MB/s at pc2100 and would love to get pc2700 to work. What type of ram was found in your internetishop ordered laptop? You might wanna check the memory speed with cpuz identifier program.

Also, ECS released a new bios at www.ecs.com.tw which says it can turn off the fan with the cpu is cool? I am reluctanct to flash because the previous bios killed my previous G551 because it had messed up something from the VGA to LCD. I have heard several users complain about that problem and ECS just pulled that bios off and offered really no free support to those that flashed the corrupt bios. I found in a french forum several people that flashed with the new bios and it seems that it works, but i can't tell because translating the french to english makes a iffy translation. I wonder if anyone is willing to bite and test this new bios? Thanks.

CPUZ reports my memory as PC2700,but mine test about the same as yours in
Sandra,I think its a limitation of the motherboard/chipset.ECSUSA has no bios
downloads for this notebook so I would not even think about flashing it,as long
as it works way tempt fate.

Hmm... interesting. I didn't know that they make a version of the Celeron with the Pentium M core.

So does CPUZ report your ram running at 166.6mhz and your sandra results are kinda close to mine? I am really annoyed by my memory stuck at pc2100 because I paid for pc2700.

I'm gonna try to flash the bios because ECSUSA never has bios for laptops.

I tried the new bios over at www.ecs.com.tw to see how quiet the fan throttling can be. Well, so far my impressions are both good and bad. The laptop turns on with a the cpu fan at full speed. And then it goes like this: full speed(annoying) -> regular speed(bearable) -> low speed(very annoying whine) -> dead silent(very nice). The good is that when running at 600mhz, its dead silent. The bad news is that with my 1.7ghz, the fan throttling is somewhat idiotic. When the cpu heat reaches a certain point, the fan just shoots up to full speed and does the same fan cycle as I mentioned above. It gets really annoying. Hopefully I can limit the problem by replacing the thermal paste with arctic ceramique. Its better if the fan would stay on when the cpu gets hot instead of turning off again after turning on for just a few seconds.

hi, im from SE asia and planning to get myself g551. unfortunately im totally noob about notebooks. im interested becoz with those specs(centrino1.4), $1175 is relatively cheap compared to brand like ibm, toshiba. the thing is, im not really sure about ecs' durability. warranty is not so bad i think, they offer 1 year sparepart and 2 years service. so what i want to know is, how long have u been using this g551? any major complain? can anyone post the cons of this notebook? any cons, the more the better so i can be sure i made the right choice.

ps: sorry for bad english..
