The Big One :( (My Inspirong 9300 is Dying)

Yo. Just a few minutes ago I was wrapping up another late evening of gaming when my game froze and artifacts and red-blue-green pixels took over the screen. I was anew by this, it had never happened before, so I tried to alt+ctrl+del my way out of it and then my machine blue screened and died. I rebooted it and got the Windows boot menu offering safe mode /w networking w/ command prompt and start windows normally, etc. Except there was one ungodly thing different here, everything was misspelled. It offered me 'Start gindogs normally' among other nonsense. When I tried to boot this gindogs thing it wouldn't go past the Windows XP boot-loader and would just give me vertical lines of random colors before blacking out on me.

I tried to reboot a few more times to see if anything new would happen and I noted a few new things. The Dell logo on the boot-screen is covered with white dots and horizontal white lines.

Hmmm....could it be a GPU failure, or a Intel-shat-itself failure?

lol, dude IDK for sure but I would guess your GPU took a shit on you. Do you have any warranty? Hope so ...... if not I'd look for a cheap replacement gpu and see if that fixes it.

Your GPU crapped out on you. Mine just did the same thing. I took the opportunity to upgrade from the 7900 GS to the Quadro FX3500. Looks like it's time for you to upgrade to the 7800 GTX.

Well I ran a diagnostics to isolate the hardware component that was misfiring and I found out the ram on the GPU fried itself. So, I scrapped my Inspiron 9300 and posted the parts all over ebay and bought me a Vostro 200 Desktop rig. Damned GPU. :\\

no warranty?

No, gindogs is the newest update from M$, its part of there "!@$%ing up your computer for you " campaign.

Yeah, sounds like the GPU, did you get the integrated or no?

his 6800 is dedicated

Yeah it seems to happen towards the end of a dell gpu's life. Lots of 7800 gtx's have been dieing for the same reason.

The 7800 gtx's as well? Oh no...

I have seen alot of cases about video memory going bad except with the 6800 ultra and the 7950GTX. The reason for people not reporting those cards failing is probably just because less people have those cards here than the 6800 vanilla, 7800GTX, and 7900GS. For now it seems GDDR has issues with lifespan.

I tend to agree with zzpulp - seeing more and more threads on dying GPU's with memory issues, maybe time for me to look for a spare in case the inevitable happens.

Not yet time for me to ditch the O'l girl for a XPS1730 (waiting for the 8800gtx cards and reviews first)

Well I think Dell replaced the 78's w/ 79's so its just a matter of time when those with a 78 start to die.

I think you're thinking about the 7800 vanilla.
