10.5 and Bootcamp

I read in the instructions for setting up Bootcamp that a wired keyboard and mouse are required for the Windows installation part. I have an iMac with the wireless mouse and keyboard. For clarification - - Sounds like I need to get my hands on a compatible USB mouse and keyboard for the iMac to be able to get windows installed ??

Sounds like it's because Windows isn't quite smart enough to include drivers to see the wireless devices while you're installing it. I mean, seriously, you didn't even get a GUI interface until like 2 hrs into the Win XP install...

Harumph !! I guess it is what it is . Wouldn't mind if only I had a usb mouse and keyboard lying around. I guess I can pick up a cheap set. One of the reasons I upgraded to 10.5 was to get a non-beta of bootcamp. Having a dual boot iMac will be worth a cheap keyboard and mouse. Just took me by surprise , but you explained the logic behind the reasons for it. Tks a lot . . .

Well it would be allot easier if windows only supported one mouse too

What does that even mean? Are you implying that since Apple only sells one mouse (2 if you consider the wireless version) then obviously, OS X only supports that mouse?

Plug in any old USB mouse and i can pretty much guarantee you that it will work, even a microsoft brand one.

I think what the other fellow was saying was that the Windows Setup specifically cannot handle bluetooth connected devices... heck Windows XP can barely handle SATA drives, how can you expect it to handle Bluetooth? But once you get it into Windows, you have it installed, Bluetooth should work just fine.

I think that is right .... the windows installer has no clue other than what is wired in . . . I got my copy of Vista Business .. now to find a USB mouse and USB keyboard somewhere ...... I also think Bluetooth will be fine once Vista is actually installed ... thanks for the clarification .... I was simply caught a little by surprise about the wired mouse and keyboard ... hope to have it all done by the end of the weekend ....

If you can't find one for any reason, you can probably get away without the mouse, but not without the keyboard.

Bud of mine loaned me both a keyboard and a mouse . . . installed vista business without a hitch...... suh - weet to have access to both OS's from one machine .. especially since some of my s/w only runs with M$ .... and you certainly can't beat 10.5 with anything out there on the market ... Tks to all

I keep wondering if I should dualboot again. I have a copy of Vista Business (MSDNAA rocks) laying around, but i have no idea what I would use Vista for.... i guess some gaming, and netflix movies.... but that is it really.

Putting Windows on Mac for no good reason... Punishable
Putting Vista on Mac period... Punishable by death.

I have some work related proprietary apps that I just can not get to run on the Mac..... Even the web based app does not work on Safari or Firefox .... sorta sux .... but a true sad fact of life .. . . They gave me Vista and so with BootCamp , I got a fairly reasonable solution to having the best of both worlds .....

Personally I can't wait for ReactOS if it ever sees the light of day.
