What do you think of the new glossy screens?

Hello,
To all of you who have used a notebook with a glossy screen (HP BrightView, Acer CrystalBright, Sony X-Black and so on):

Generally, what do you think of the new glossy screens?

Do they reflect much of the background when you are working with the computer indoor (not in an office enviroment)? Do you think that the blank/glossy screens are annoying when you work with a computer with a such screen?

Would you recomend anyone to buy a notebook with a glossy screen? (I'm thinking of buying a Sony Vaio with an X-Black glossy screen).

Regards
Oskar

Basically if your gonna use your laptop outside or anywhere with bright light shining directly on the screen, the gloss will act as a mirror and yah won't be able to see squat. But if your using it indoors with normal lighting, it will improve contrast and give images a more vivid feel.

If you use your laptop outside forget about it - too much glare. That being said I only use my laptop indoors and I could never go back to a matte screen. Photos and movies are way better on a glossy screen. The colours are so vibrant.

like everyone else said...it really depends.

anything outdoors or office type lighting you might as well kill yourself. also if you are trying to look @ screen w/ multiple people, noticed that viewing from a wider angle sucks more on gloss than matte. however, if 99.9% of the time you are indoors w/ normal lighting and using by yourself @ a good viewing angle...then the picture does looks a bit sharper. Personally i don't mind the matte much myself, actually somewhat prefer it.

recommend matte if you're doing any type of graphic design. a good matte screen (ibm flexview, apple) handles color more accurately. of course, most laptop screens, matte or gloss, will not do this as well as a standalone monitor.

Are there any good anti-glare screens that can be used on a laptop for outdoors? I checked newegg but only find CRT anti-glare screens.

if youre not facing a window with light shining in, its effin amazing.....everything is smoothe and its hard to see pixels........matte you can see each pixel sitting there, it annoyed me

if you face a direct light into the screen its rough to see, but still doable

i will never buy a matte finish laptop ever........well cept for Asus EEE

I took the easy way out... I have an extra LCD.... (and bezel) I can usually swap it out in about 5-10 min.
