I have Vista but it crap so I want to go back to XP. I have tried to install XP but it is not finding any harddrives to install to. I am sure it has to do with the sata drives but I am hitting F6 and choosing the xp sata drivers. I am not sure why it is not finding any drives. Can anybody help me out? Where can I find the correct sata drivers at? Thanks

You need to look into Slipstreaming. You can add your sata/raid drivers to your win xp disk and that will allow you to boot off the cd/install windows. Nlite is a free progam that works fine for this task.

You need a progam called Nlite and do some looking on slipstreaming raid drivers onto your XP disk. It is not hard and if you get stuck let me know and I will walk you through it.

Add the files from the "drvdisk" folder to your xp disk using Nlite. The raid drivers can be downloaded from Sager with the 9750 given as your machine. Make sure you pick the ones for Windows XP. You will have to do some reading on how to use Nlite. It is not hard once you understand how it works. Basically you copy your XP disk folders/files to a folder on your PC then you use Nlite to add stuff to it. One part of the "adding" is drivers. That is where the 'drvdisk" folder comes into play. When it is added via Nlite you will have the raid drivers slipstreamed into your XP disk eliminating the need to use the "F6" method for Raid installation. When you hit the windows setup it will then see your raid drives as one hard drive. Good luck and be prepared for a potential long night of trial and error

There's a makedisk as I recall on the xp drivers cd.
I had no trouble using the resulting driver diskette when I installed xp.
You do have to have the floppy plugged in when you boot. And have the diskette inserted before xp loads.

Slipstreamed certainly sounds more convenient tho.

I did not not know it could be done this way. How did you know how to do that? Was it in a manual or something? I have the disks that came with my 9860. It came with vista, but one of the disks is labeled for win xp? Is that the one you are referring to? Does any usb floppy work?

Use this link. Go to 9750 downloads. Use the: RAID drivers for Xp folder. The raid drivers you need on the floppy are under the "drvdisk" folder

Well we're talking about 9750, don't know anything about 9860. Got mine with no OS, just follwed the driver install instructions. There was a manual on the cd, I believe.

Is going to back to XP worth the trouble? I have Vista on 3 machines and XP at work and prefer Vista hands down.

Then get Vista. Its all about what you like. Although the drivers for Vista kinda suck, and its more demanding on your system as a whole.

Not for your computer, no. However, I do know that mine works. FYI, I posted my model for it here long ago.

Yeah, if you like it, stay with Vista. I used it for 9 months and was never happy with it. Video performance never came close to Xp. Ready boost was good at first but after a few months the flash performance degraded and it was actually slower with Ready boost than without. When I wiped Vista off the machine it was using 30% of the machine's performance for itself. I pulled out of it what I liked: a few desktop jpegs...
