Well let me start by saying that I'll post a review this weekend. Its my first laptop and I haven't spent enough time playing with it to give a good review yet. I did take the time to hook you guys up with some pics though

The stats are:
2.8GHz WUXGA (1920x1200)
512MB RAM
7200 Speed 60GB disk
ATI 9700 128MB vid card
DVD +R/RW
No wireless (gonna do that on my own)
$1776 Shipped

The pics were taken with my 2MP camera, and i kinda suck at digi-photography so some of them are a little blury but I hope you guys dig them anyway.

For large pics check out this link.

For medium size pics check out this link

Let me know if you'd like pics of anything else, or closeups of anything.

Enjoy

Thanks for the pics I've been waiting to see what this thing looks like. Can't wait to get mines, one question did you cange the screen resolution on the WUXGA screen it dosen't look as small as I thought it was going to be, so it looks like I will not be disappointed with my choice of a WUXGA screen resoultion.

I agree. It looks like the toolbar is tiny, but the windows that are open are huge and can't fit side-by-side. (I was imagining WUXGA to be tiny) Is this just a preferential setting for you?

Got my 9100 2 days ago, and i have to say this thing is awesome! Set up a wireless network last night with a D-Link DI-624 and matching card without any problems. Thanks to everyone who recommended the D-Link. Hope to post some screen shots tonight of some in-game shots. Hope you enjoy yours, I know I sure do.

The reason the windows seem to large is because I hadn't yet adjusted the dpi in the desktop settings. It had me worried at first actually. Not only did the windows seem to large, but graphics and photos on the web were jaggy and blury. I did some research and found out that Dell defaults the dpi to 20% over normal size, increasing the size of things and causing the problems I'd noticed. Here is a thread on Dell's fourms explaining it.

Fear not, the screen is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks for the pics, Marshall. Also thanks for the headsup on the dpi problem - I'm expecting my XPS next week.

BTW, I too am a member of the Flaming Altoids Society!

Great Pics... can you post some pictures displaying Windows? Just to get a sense of scale; icons and fonts and whatnot. Does the sharpness of the screen make it easy to read, or do you find it squinty at all?

Here's a DPI Calculator that might calculate a suitable dpi to set Windows at.

Windows tends to stretch icons in ugly ways tho...

More Pics

See the links I posted above for more pics.

As requested I took a couple shots of the laptop with regular windows displayed. They are called windowsPic.jpg and windowsPic2.jpg.

I also took a screen shot if that helps at all. In the large folder its full size (1920x1200) and in the medium folder its about half that.

Hope this helps!

Also, as far as the text, its razor sharp to my eyes, but a small (once the dpi is changed to the right value). If i dont have the laptop very close to my I have to decrease the resolution so be able to read stuff. Changing the text size in IE doesn't always help thanks to those bastard web developers that force their text to display at only a certain size (pet peeve of mine).

ps. One thing I'm worried about is that when I changed the resolution the first time it gave me a warning saying that the lcd was designed to run at 1920x1200 and that was the best resolution. It threw off a vibe like it may be bad to run at any other resolution, but since I've now formatted I dont get that warning (must have been some Dell thing that was on here). I hope that it wont hurt the laptop to run it in a non-native resolution, cause that would suck!

Try using Mozilla Firefox. Changing text size is much better in that browser IMO.

Those pics were very helpful. Man, that thing is HUGE!

Wow... like CJohuaV said... that thing IS huge. While I realized it was pretty much a 8600 with extra height.... I never realized it was sorta like having two 8600s one on top of the other.
